Khan spotted the Captain's hesitation, but the latter didn't reply. He lowered his head, losing himself in thought. That simple offer had cornered Captain Lochport, forcing him to choose between different degrees of evil.

Accepting Khan's offer would push Nott Station into an environment the structure and Captain Lochport weren't equipped to handle. The Captain would have to start engaging in actual politics, losing the safety created by the lack of relevance.

Meanwhile, refusing Khan sounded impossible. He was a Prince, one of the most famous ones, and Captain Lochport couldn't fathom the consequences of such an act. Khan didn't look ill-intentioned, but the Captain knew better than to trust the nobles.
