Chapter 1036: Gluttony’s Territory
Chapter 1036: Gluttony’s Territory
Lady Vinegar had been having a conversation with herself.
Vine thought they should find a way to leave this place, and gar seeing as to how well the witches were taking care of Luca, thought it was not a bad idea to let the child stay. While, conversing, they both agreed to at least see for a while before they made a decision on what to do.
Lady Vinegar moved quickly through the dimly lit corridors of the ship, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of Luca. He should have been out of the mysterious chamber by now. An uneasy feeling gnawed at her, pushing her to check on him.
As she approached Luca’s room, she was confronted by a witch standing guard.
The witch’s robes were elegant yet dark, woven from rich, obsidian fabric that shimmered with an almost ethereal quality. Intricate patterns of silver thread traced arcane symbols across the fabric, and on her chest was a prominent sigil: a crescent moon entwined with a serpent, its eyes glowing a deep crimson. This was the symbol all witches in this place carried.
The air around her seemed to hum with restrained power.
Lady Vinegar tried to move past, but the witch raised a hand, her voice cold and unyielding. "The Witch Mother has forbidden anyone from entering."
"Including me?" She asked.
"Yes..." the witch responded.
Ignoring the warning, Lady Vinegar’s nostrils flared as she caught a scent in the air: Human blood and meat.
Her eyes widened in horror and anger. As far as she was concerned, something had happened to her Luca.
Summoning her Darkline demon power, she blasted the witch away with a surge of dark energy, sending her crashing into the wall with a pained cry.
Rushing into the room, Lady Vinegar was met with an unbelievable but gruesome sight.
Luca was still in one piece but, things were different.
Blood spattered the walls and floor, creating a macabre tableau. The mutilated body of a human lay sprawled across the room, limbs twisted at unnatural angles.
The chest cavity had been brutally torn open, ribs jutting out like broken shards of bone. Blood pooled around the corpse, soaking into the carpet and giving off a sickening metallic scent. Amidst the carnage, another witch stood, her hands drenched in crimson, holding the still-beating heart of the man.
Luca, her young son, sat at a small table, his innocent eyes wide and expectant. On his plate, the heart was placed with a sickening squelch, blood oozing onto the porcelain.
Rage unlike anything she had ever felt before surged through Lady Vinegar. Her eyes glowed with a fierce, otherworldly light as she screamed, "How dare you do such a thing?" Her voice echoed with the force of her fury.
She attacked with a ferocity born of pure and simple wrath of a mother.
Cosmic law and Darkline magic wove together, creating a devastating storm of power. Dark tendrils lashed out, striking the witches with lethal precision. The air crackled with energy, and the room trembled under the onslaught.
One by one, the witches fell, unable to withstand the relentless assault. Lady Vinegar pushed forward, her eyes locked on Luca. In a final burst of speed, she reached him, pulling him from the chair and into her arms. He was trembling, confused, and frightened.
Holding him close, she glared at the remnants of the witches, her voice a venomous hiss. "I will never forgive you for this." Her words dripped with hatred.
The room was silent, save for the sound of Luca’s soft whimpers and the steady beat of Lady Vinegar’s heart. She stood amidst the carnage, her protective instincts blazing.
The room was a whirlwind of chaos and carnage when Lady Vinegar held Luca close, her eyes blazing with protective fury. The tumult of her magic had drawn attention, and within moments, a group of witches rushed into the room, their eyes widening at the sight of the destruction.
Without hesitation, they attacked. After all, they did not like her anyway because of her demon origin. This was a perfect excuse to get rid of the scum amongst them.
Runes glowed in the air as spells were cast, and Negative magic of elemental forces surged toward Lady Vinegar. One witch, her eyes burning with anger, summoned a torrent of fire that roared towards them. Another conjured a spear of ice, while yet another summoned a gust of wind, razor-sharp with whirling debris.
Lady Vinegar moved with the agility and precision of a seasoned warrior. With Luca held protectively against her chest, she dodged the fire with a graceful leap, her body twisting in mid-air to avoid the searing heat. The flames licked at her heels, but she was already moving, somersaulting through the air and landing lightly on her feet.
A witch charged at her, Negative magic crackling around her fists. Lady Vinegar sidestepped the attack, using her Darkline magic to redirect the energy into another witch, who cried out in surprise as the force of the blow sent her sprawling.
As the witches pressed their attack, Lady Vinegar’s movements were a blur. She deflected a spear of ice with a shield of dark energy, the shard shattering harmlessly against it. A gust of wind threatened to knock her off balance, but she grounded herself, using the force to pivot and launch a counterattack. Her magic lashed out like a living thing, striking with lethal accuracy.
She ducked beneath a lightning bolt, her body a symphony of motion as she twisted and turned, always keeping Luca safe. With a flick of her wrist, she sent a wave of dark energy towards her attackers, the air crackling with raw magic power. One witch was thrown back, crashing into the wall with a bone-jarring thud.
Lady Vinegar’s fury was a terrible force. She moved through the witches like a storm, her magic a devastating tide that swept all before it. She leaped and spun, dodging attacks with a fluid grace, her retaliations swift and merciless.
Just as she was about to unleash a final, killing blow on ones head, a voice rang out, cutting through the chaos like a knife. "Enough!"
Everyone froze, turning towards the source of the command. There, standing in the doorway, was the Witch Mother, Durgia. Her presence was commanding, her eyes blazing with authority.
Even Lady Vinegar stopped, her breath coming in ragged gasps, her body still coiled with tension. She held Luca tightly, her eyes never leaving Durgia’s. The room fell into a heavy silence, the air thick with the aftermath of battle and the unspoken order of the Witch Mother’s command.
She looked at the witches and then at Lady Vinegar, holding tightly Luca who in turn was not ready to let her go.
She sighed in understanding as she walked over. "Are you alright, Vinegar?" she asked in a calm unnaturally serene tone. It was like the clam of the flowing streams.
However, lady Vinegar was still burning with adrenaline. "What do you mean? You... You were trying to feed my son, human flesh."
Durgia rolled her eyes a bit, "Ahhh! I see. That’s exactly why I instructed that you not be allowed in the room."
Lady Vinegar looked at Durgia with a puzzled look.
However, Durgia continued, "Beast meat, human meat... what is the difference. After all, it is all food. And it is a known fact that when creatures eat protein source of their own kind, the nutrients gained is far more valuable because of their protein similarity."
Lady Vinegar was still shocked, "but... that is cannibalism?"
Durgia raised a brow at her, "This child is part human, but still carries demon blood. You yourself fed him with your demon blood back in those desert lands. Does that not also counts as cannibalism?"
Lady vinegar paused, "But.. that’s... You were about to feed him the still beating heart from a person."
"Those are genetically modified and magically grown in a farm. Just like the beast meat he has been eating. Or should i show you the process? Or maybe you would feel better about your self inflicted morals if we mutated the form of the Human so that way it looks like a beast instead, Huh!?"
Lady Vinegar paused, unable to put things together. After all, what Durgia said was true. Besides, her father had been a demon governor.
She too had eaten human meat more times than she could remember. However, after her association with Lenny and the others, she had started to view them as people and not food.
She wanted to speak against this. After all, deep in her heart, she could tell that it was not right to feed a toddler with human meat.
Just as they were conversing, a dark rune like a star, suddenly appeared at the ear of Durgia.
"Mother, we are here. In the 4th quadrant of the Gluttony Territory. What are your orders mother?"
"Prepare for a landing!"
"But the demons have sensed our presence and have began their attacks."
"Don’t worry... our little prince will take care of all of them."
