Chapter 62 - 62 061 Glowing Cuisine
?Chapter 62: 061 Glowing Cuisine Chapter 62: 061 Glowing Cuisine Ever since finding out that Lin An was favored by the Antler Witch-Hunting Knight Order, the young boss kept giving Lin An all sorts of surprises.
It was as if he had finally found a child whom he could show off his toys to, tirelessly bringing over all kinds of bizarre items to share with Lin An.
Although he said it was for a drink, he just bought a few bottles of ice-cold beer from a small supermarket outside the neighborhood.
What didn’t match up was an antiquely-styled wooden food box.
When he opened the food box, inside was a grilled fish on an iron plate.
“Holy shit!” Lin An, who always managed to keep his composure, even when dealing with the two crazy witches, Chen Xinmi and Chen Shuyun, couldn’t help but exclaim out loud this time.
He pointed incredulously at the grilled fish in the iron plate, his eyes wide as he turned to the young boss, “Is this thing glowing?”
It wasn’t an illusion at the level of spiritual sight; it was genuinely glowing in the real world!
Could there really be glowing cuisine in this world?
“Did you stuff a light bulb into its belly, or did you add radioactive material?”
“Hahaha…” The young boss placed his hands on his hips, thoroughly enjoying Lin An’s astonishment, and he laughed haughtily, “Cool, huh? Fun, right?”
“Damn, I have to say, damn!” Lin An looked dumbfounded as he helped the young boss move the iron plate from the food box to the table.
The young boss made himself at home as he ran to the kitchen to grab bowls and chopsticks, then handed the chopsticks to Lin An, “An, want to give it a try?”
Rubbing his hands excitedly, he said, “I’m telling you, it’s said that the meat of this thing will keep you free from boils for a lifetime.”
“That magical?” Lin An blinked, curious, and took a piece into his mouth. Instantly, a unique and delicious flavor spread in his mouth.
He chewed gently, his eyes lighting up. The meat was bouncy and shockingly good.
“What exactly is this?”
Both of them took their seats and cracked open cans of ice-cold beer. Lin An could no longer hold back his questions.
“Hehe~” The young boss raised an eyebrow, took a piece into his mouth, tilted his head back, and savored it with his eyes closed. Finally, he spoke in a whisper, as if sharing a secret, “I’ll tell you, wizards, after they awaken, are particularly prone to being corroded by spiritual energy for a period of time, turning into a weakened version of sorcerer zombies…”
“Pfft~~~”
Beer sprayed out of Lin An’s mouth. Fortunately, he turned his head in time, and it went all over the floor. He choked and coughed, his eyes wide with disbelief as he looked at the young boss, trembling slightly as he pointed at the fish on the plate, “Human… human…?”
The young boss chuckled, “Of course… not, silly!”
He took a sip of beer and, seeing Lin An leaning back with a look of repulsion, wanting to stay away from the fish, couldn’t help laughing, “Can you at least let me finish?”
Lin An’s face tightened, feeling nauseous all over, he reluctantly said, “Go on!”
“Wizards are a special case among humans who are particularly vulnerable to spirit energy corrosion. It’s said that even the unawakened are being eroded.”
“So humans can be eroded by spirit energy, what about plants? What about animals?”
“Hehe, wizards fully eroded by spirit energy are called sorcerer zombies or demons, while eroded plants are called demonic plants, and eroded animals are called ‘Stone Treasure.'”
Lin An was stunned for a second, “Stone Treasure? What kind of weird name is that?”
“Hehe~” The young boss, chopsticks in hand, appeared knowledgeable, “There is something peculiar about this name.”
“Come on, take a sip, and I’ll tell you more.”
Damn!
Now we’re encouraging drinking, why don’t you sing ‘Bring in the Wine’ for me to listen to?
Lin An was somewhat helpless, taking two gulps of the ice-cold beer. His alcohol tolerance wasn’t great, the young boss quickly urged him to eat another piece of fish to quell the alcohol.
In contrast, the young boss was much bolder, downing an entire can of beer with gusto.
“Ah~~ Belch~”
He let out a satisfied burp and then continued to speak, “All things have spirits, but the Spirit Realm’s spiritual energy insists on corroding the spirit of all things. In my opinion, it shouldn’t be called spiritual energy, but demonic qi. Many people are starting to call it that now.”
Lin An nodded and listened intently to his explanation.
“The human spirit gets eroded by demonic qi, demonized, and eventually falls into becoming demons. Animals’ spirits aren’t so lucky; they don’t stand a chance to become demons.”
The young boss shook his head with a sigh, “Even the Spirit Realm has its biases, I think some animals are more reliable than humans…”
This guy does have a good tolerance for alcohol, but after a few rounds of horse piss, he starts to ramble, which Lin An learned last time.
“Anyway, we won’t be seeing those monsters from the comics and movies.”
“When animals’ spirituality gets eroded by Demonic Qi, they lose their spirituality and begin to slowly turn to wood or stone.”
Lin An raised his eyebrows, reminded of Chen Xinmi’s super-sized toad, which though seemingly alive, had a unique woody texture.
“It’s similar to a fossil, get it?” The young boss gestured with his chopsticks toward the fish on the plate, “But they don’t actually turn into stone or wood; they feel alive to the touch, yet they don’t move and sink to the bottom of the river or get buried in the mountains.”
“For instance, once this fish starts to transform, it doesn’t need to breathe. It will leave the river during heavy rain and crawl toward the mountain side. If it’s lucky enough not to be eaten by other beasts on the way, it will bury itself in the soil, and then it will continue to undergo changes.”
“The fish’s head starts to morph into the shape of a cow’s head, growing a pair of bull’s horns, the tail becomes a snake’s tail, and its fins transform into a pair of large wings…”
“In the process of such transformation, it will look more and more like a piece of wood.”
“However, it smells too good, and soil-dwelling creatures like ants and earthworms will come to nibble at it, gradually eating it up over time.”
“So, finding such a ‘Stone Treasure’ isn’t easy, and finding one that is of good quality is even harder.”
It sounded magical.
Lin An was dumbfounded, but then saw a giant white python roaring in the room, “Evil Witch Hunter Knight! How dare you consume the precious pet you acquired with such difficulty as food! Ahhh… Do you realize how rare this is? To just eat it like that!”
He raised his eyebrows and then looked down to see a squirrel looking up at him with wide eyes. With a light tap of his toe, the squirrel’s murmured words reached his ears, “It looks so tasty, damn it, I’m hungry… wuwuwu…”
“…” Lin An’s expression became odd. Human hearts are complex and changeable, and sometimes he really didn’t know if the words spoken by a spiritual being truly reflected its master’s actual thoughts.
The young boss was rambling on, but Lin An didn’t see any bull’s head, snake’s tail, or large wings in the dish.
“Those parts were cut off to make medicine. What we have left is the fish’s body for trading, and it’s rare to come by such a find.”
The young boss waved his hand, indicating Lin An should stop looking. “In truth, there isn’t much sold. Stone Treasure sounds miraculous, but eating this fish at most prevents skin lesions. It’s not the kind of miraculous substance described in novels.”
“It doesn’t have that many effects.”
Alright then.
Lin An got it, “So it’s like a special monster that only drops a certain type of medicine, it can’t provide experience points nor will it drop other gear.”
“Exactly!” The young boss lifted his can, “Clear understanding. Here, let’s cheers.”
Lin An had no choice but to pick up his cup and clink it against his.
Once the game was mentioned, the young boss stopped talking about the fish and excitedly started discussing the game he was developing.
He also mentioned that the black silk lady Lin An took a liking to last time would soon be joining the company.
The fish was not small, and even the bones could be eaten; when the two of them finished, they were both full.
Of course, Lin An suspected that the young boss was sated from the beer since most of the fish had ended up in his stomach.
When the slightly tipsy young boss was holding his phone, calling for a Uber and staggering away, Lin An stood by the window, watching the garage entrance of the apartment complex, waiting for the young boss’s car to drive away before opening the wardrobe.
Chen Shuyun, curled up among piles of clothes, had a strange expression on her face.
It was also a mix of an odd sort of seriousness.
She looked intently at Lin An for a long time before she slowly said, “The first time we met, I sensed a very faint aura of a Witch Hunter Knight on you, but a Witch Hunter Knight cannot be that weak, so I did not pay much attention to it.” (Chapter 20)
Lin An was taken aback, hesitated for a moment, and nodded, “The boss likes to talk nonsense. He once told me some health techniques, and I found them interesting, so I learned a little.”
“Health techniques? The Baqinxi, right?” Chen Shuyun stepped out slowly, chuckling coldly, “Really courting death!”
Lin An’s mind was reeling, but he let the red string in his hand fall gently as he maintained a puzzled look, “Isn’t it harmless? There’s a bunch of people learning it in the parks.”
“But you are a Wizard!” Chen Shuyun sighed, “Even if you haven’t awakened, you are still a Wizard; this is something you can’t change.”
Seeing that Lin An was still clueless, she continued, “You really should join ‘Crazy Male Witch’s Tree Hole’; you know too little about Wizards.”
Chen Shuyun didn’t seem to harbor much hostility toward Lin An for learning the Breathing Skill, but she walked over to the table, pulled out a chair to sit, and gestured to the chair across, “I think I need to have a serious talk with you about what a Wizard is, and what a Witch Hunter Knight is!”
