Chapter 137: Mira’s Prophecies
Chapter 137: Mira’s Prophecies
It was around this time that the cars abruptly stopped. This was followed by gunshots, and then screams.
People.
The soldiers went down the car to clear the area, following the sound of the yells.
"Help us!"
"Please!!"
Khalifa and Helena looked out the window to see what was going on.
They apparently neared a gas station, where a group of people took cover.
From what she was seeing, they probably heard the sound of gunshots and, after seeing the zombies being attracted away, they ’bravely’ went over to get noticed.
Of course, this was just attracting zombies to them and making the soldier’s jobs even more difficult.
"Please! Help us!!!" They cried and the soldiers had no choice but to rush the rescue a bit, lest they attract more aggro.
As they entered the station, Ryo immediately ordered his soldiers to stop using guns in case of explosions, so the soldiers jumped down to handle the zombies using the cold weapons they had on-hand.
Fortunately, clearing the area with so many experienced soldiers was a breeze and the new survivors cried in glee.
"Thank you!!" They yelled, immediately congregating near the soldiers, near safety.
Ryo sighed and looked at the reddish skies. It would be dangerous to travel at night with so many people, so he decided to set up camp nearby instead.
The group thus set up camp in the wild, where they added another dozen survivors from the gas station.
The soldiers distributed minimal food and water, just enough for survival.
One old woman frowned. "This is it? We’ve been hungry for ages!"
"Resources are finite ma’am, we can only give enough for survival."
"You—where are my taxes going?"
The soldiers sighed and ignored her. A few days ago, he’d have bothered, but they encountered too many people like this that they knew not to succumb to their demands.
Seeing that she wasn’t being taken care of, the woman threw a tantrum, saying the government is corrupt, the military is useless.
Ryo’s eyes turned cold. "If the military is useless, then may I humbly suggest not joining us to the base."
"You—!!!!"
Howard sneered, "If you want to attract zombies, you can continue making noise. Maybe we can throw you to them to feed."
The woman gasped, rubbing her chest in anger, as if she was about to have an aneurysm. "Disrespectful!!!" She yelled, "Kids nowadays!"
But no one paid attention anymore and everyone focused on enjoying their small meals.
It was just that people were really hungry. A classmate even wanted to chew on a nearby leaf.
"Don’t!" Mira said, pale from the pain of her wounds reopening, making sure her steps were slower and appeared more laborous than usual.
For a while now, she had used these ’dreams’ to gain traction, passing them off as if they were prophetic dreams.
In a sense, it was true.
And this was another chance for her to show her value. She aimed to elevate her status, not like the past her who could only use low-level tricks and suffer in the end like a shrew.
She decided to use these dreams the best she could.
Mira was determined to get a better ending this time.
She looked at her classmate with a very serious expression. Her face was pale but she bit her lips, as if pushing herself to teach him.
This made the classmate, Ron, who was already a little obsessed and admiring towards her since she circumstantially saved him back in school, look at her even hotter.
"Don’t look at the plants looking healthy, the virus changed something in their makeup that could harm humans," She said.
This was news released by scientists a few days before her death, almost a year later.
Ron, and a few classmates nearby, paled. "Just humans?"
She nodded and told them the findings of the researchers in her dreams.
"The virus… it could be akin to the planet’s white blood cells targeting a very, very, specific virus: Humans."
This was true, and it was something Khalifa also knew.
It was why many of her farms were protected and, for outside farms, she had testing equipment in the island to see which plants were edible or not.
The classmate couldn’t help but look at Mira with great admiration. "I owe you again."
Mira gently smiled, sending a furtive glance at the direction of the soldiers, who had been listening in. "I just do what I can to help."
She looked pale then, and almost faint. She happened to lean towards a direction to be caught by Ryo, who had approached her side to ask more about what she had been saying.
She had always been trying to emulate Claire before but now with more experience and more maturity, she had a lot more success.
"Are you alright?" Ryo looked at her with a bit of concern. While it was nothing special, it was miles better than how it was in her dreams.
"I’m fine, thank you." She smiled, swiping her soft body so very subtly to him, as if an accident. "If you want to know more about plants I… I can tell you more."
"You can take a rest first."
She shook her head. "No, the earlier, the better." She told him, looking like she was pushing her body to the limit.
This concerned a lot of people. To some extent, even Ryo.
They offered her a seat next to Ryo around the campfire. They offered her a few more biscuits and water and no one dared complain, knowing what she would say was important.
Internally, Mira enjoyed the attention and held back her smile as she was surrounded by handsome soldiers.
Most importantly, she finally had Ryo’s attention!
However, after she explained to them what she knew about these things (withholding just enough for future use), an enticing smell attracted everyone’s attention.
…and away from her.
Mira frowned, her brown eyes heading to where everyone else was now looking at:
At that Darned RV.
