?Chapter 394: 380. Son-in-law Confrontation (5)_1 Chapter 394: 380. Son-in-law Confrontation (5)_1 Quan Jingwu chuckled softly, reaching out to grab her phone and dialing a number.
“Hello, Xiaojing!”
Her eyes widened in shock, quickly trying to grab the phone back.
A male voice came from the other end of the line, and Quan Jingwu handed the phone back to her.
“There you go.”
Watching him walk towards the kitchen, Jian Qing mustered her courage and raised the phone to her ear.
“Is this Jian Qing?”
On the other end of the call, Mo Xiao’s voice was cautious, almost unbelieving that Jian Qing would take the initiative to call him.
“Um, would you… would you like to come over for dinner?” she asked, taking a deep breath.
“What?”
Mo Xiao’s eyes flashed brightly, unable to believe what he had heard.
“Do you want to come over for dinner?” Now that she had asked once, it was easier to ask again.
“Yes, definitely. I’ll be right over!” Mo Xiao quickly agreed.
Hearing the sound of a chair being pushed back from the other end of the call, Jian Qing gave a quiet laugh and hung up the phone before going upstairs.
Meanwhile, Ning Feng couldn’t help but laugh at Mo Xiao’s excited expression.
“You two go ahead and eat, I need to step out for a bit.”
With that, Mo Xiao quickly left the dining room.
He had prepared a large table full of dishes which were now growing cold. He hadn’t seen her yet and thought she wasn’t coming, but this surprise had completely caught him off guard.
This surprise made him so thrilled that he felt like shouting out loud.
Hearing the slam of the door, Ning Feng exchanged glances with his companion, helplessly looking at the table full of food.
This was far too much, they probably couldn’t even finish it by tomorrow.
Jian Qing changed into some casual clothes and had just come downstairs when the doorbell rang.
This quickly?
Without thinking too much about it, she walked over.
Opening the door, a burst of cold air rushed in.
Having run all the way here, Mo Xiao was panting slightly.
Surprised, Jian Qing wondered, did he run here all the way?
“Come in.”
She stepped aside, inviting him in.
Mo Xiao followed her in with a smile on his face.
The soft lamp light reflected throughout the room, creating a warm atmosphere.
However, the moment he saw Quan Jingwu coming out of the kitchen, all traces of Mo Xiao’s paternal smile disappeared.
Why is this kid here too?
Quan Jingwu’s expression was indifferent as he automatically ignored the low-pressure vibe from his future father-in-law.
“Let’s eat.”
With that, he led Jian Qing into the dining room.
Watching his dearly-loved daughter being led away, Mo Xiao was fuming yet unable to vent his anger.
They still hadn’t acknowledged him as her father, so he had no authority to intervene.
Mo Xiao sighed softly and promptly followed them into the dining room.
Entering the dining room, he took a seat across from Jian Qing.
Turning his gaze to Quan Jingwu, he suggested in a low voice, “How about a drink?”
Was this a challenge?
Quan Jingwu lightly smirked, “Sure.”
“No alcohol until after dinner.”
Jian Qing gave the two showdown-ready men a quick glance and defused the situation.
At her word, both men instantly behaved.
“Alright, as you wish.” Quan Jingwu smoothly began to serve her food.
Mo Xiao picked up his chopsticks but didn’t start eating, quietly watching Jian Qing eat.
“Is the food not to your liking?” Jian Qing asked, looking up at him.
“No,” Mo Xiao shook his head and finally started eating.
Midway through the meal, he paused, put down his chopsticks, picked up the public chopsticks, and placed a piece of meat into Jian Qing’s bowl.
“Eat more.”
He pulled his hand back, a slight hint of nervousness in his voice.
Jian Qing looked at the additional meat in her bowl, a slight smile tugging the corner of her mouth, “Thank you!”
Seeing her eat the food he served, Mo Xiao felt a surge of happiness, a bright smile lighting up his eyes.
Following that, Mo Xiao enthusiastically served food to Jian Qing, effectively taking over Quan Jingwu’s role.
Quan Jingwu glanced at Mo Xiao from the corner of his eyes, begrudgingly refraining from arguing with him.
Jian Qing looked at the mountain of food in her bowl and seeing Mo Xiao reach out to serve more, quickly stopped him, “This is enough for me, you should eat too.”
“Alright.” Mo Xiao stopped, his handsome face lighting up with a brilliant smile.
By the end of the meal, Jian Qing felt like her stomach was about to burst.
“Xiaojing, let me help you clean up.”
It would be a bit awkward to sit in the living room alone with Mo Xiao.
“No need, leave the dishes to us,” Mo Xiao protested as he stood up, “Girls shouldn’t have to do dishes.”
He believed in indulging his daughter. After all, as his daughter, she should be pampered excessively, regardless of the consequences.
Quan Jingwu glanced at him skeptically. Could he really wash dishes?
Jian Qing looked at him, too, surprised but decided not to ask outrightly. It was always important to save face.
“Alright then, I’ll leave it to you guys.”
She beckoned to Snowball, taking him with her as she left the dining room.
Once she was gone, Mo Xiao returned to his usual cold demeanor.
“Can you really wash dishes?” Quan Jingwu casually asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
Mo Xiao’s face betrayed a hint of embarrassment, but he quickly regained his confidence, “It’s just washing dishes.”
Quan Jingwu gave a meaningful smile, picking up the dishes from the table and carrying them into the kitchen. Mo Xiao quickly removed the remaining food scraps from the table.
Setting the dishes in the sink, Quan Jingwu looked at Mo Xiao who had just entered the kitchen and said lightly, “Then I’ll let you do the washing.”
“And what about you?” Mo Xiao asked, looking at him coldly.
Darned kid, he wanted to make a fool out of him, but that was not going to happen.
“Our princess will want fruit later, I’ll prepare it now,” Quan Jingwu replied calmly.
Mo Xiao, “I can do the fruits.”
“You don’t even know how to wash dishes, do you?” Quan Jingwu looked at him, amusement flickering in his eyes, his voice laced with undisguised disdain.
Feeling his sore point being jabbed at, Mo Xiao snorted angrily, “Who said I can’t? I’ll wash them.”
He absolutely couldn’t lose face in front of this darned kid. He had to make a comeback somehow.
Otherwise, what would happen to the dignity of a father-in-law?
“Then take your time washing.” Quan Jingwu smiled satisfactorily.
Having deftly passed on the task of washing dishes, he leisurely began to cut the fruit.
Mo Xiao looked at the pile of dishes in the sink and felt a faint sense of melancholy.
A quick scrub, a rinse, and it should be alright.
Thinking this, he grabbed the dish detergent and squeezed a generous amount into the sink.
When he turned on the faucet, a noticeable amount of bubbles quickly formed.
Mo Xiao was taken aback and quickly shut off the water.
Rolling up his sleeves, he started washing the dishes.
Whilst chopping fruit, Quan Jingwu glanced at him out of the corner of his eye, noticing the half-emptied bottle of dish detergent, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
Those dishes would probably have to be discarded after being “washed.”
