Chapter 240: It’s time to Duel (1)

"What do you think? Does that still surprise you?" Elysia asked with an intrigued tone.

"Yeah, a little..." Amy obediently sat down. She stared into the distance, then back at the Goddess beside her. "But, there’s one thing I don’t understand. Can you please enlighten me, my lady?"

"Why do you still call me that? Just call me Ely. But, well... tell me."

"Why do you do so many things for those mortals, even mermaids you don’t know? Do you want to create a new religion where your followers worship you? Why do you let them loose under your name then?"

"My people are carrying out a mission for the mermaids by declaring war. A war to end all wars for the freedom of mermaids and other slaves."

"But that’s not good. Even though your followers only mention your title and nickname, the Supreme Goddess Ely, your people actually say your name, Goddess Elysia."

"It’s okay. I don’t have the same worries as you. I can tell everyone’s state of heart when they mention my name. It will be easy for me to spot the insincere and separate the good and the bad."

"Is, is that so?"

"Then, tell me. Why are you afraid of your name being known to anyone? It’s related to the heavenly abyss monsters sealed in Nirvana Realm."

Elysia stared into Amy’s dark abyss eyes.

Amy thought it was unwise to play secretive games before the Supreme. She had no choice but to state the truth. "Yes... those monsters would mark us and could put us under some curses..."

"We’ve faced similar creatures back in our previous world. Do they have super anti-magic innate abilities? How do you defeat them?" Elysia took out a jade box and stroked it lightly.

"It was a long battle with a lot of destruction and sacrifice... The most dangerous thing about them was their heavenly curses. Even after their death, they could still make their killer suffer." Amy recalled the bitter experience in the past. The desperate battles...

"No anti-magic?" Elysia casually asked the most crucial thing as if it wasn’t that important.

"I can’t be sure, but my Lord can still suppress that Immortal Emperor monster’s ambition to rest. The ones that I encountered, I killed them with my divine technique." Amy tapped her chin, wondering about the others.

"Hmm... it’s similar to the ones we encountered in our previous world. They’re really troublesome, but it’s not impossible to wipe them out." Elysia smiled faintly, feeling slightly relieved. She and her family didn’t need to suffer if the enemy didn’t have super anti-magic.

"May I know what happened to the previous world you visited, my lady?" Amy was intrigued.

"We saved the world, and the cursed monsters, including the God-class world-devouring monster, were eradicated. Our battle almost destroyed the nearby galaxy, but because of the heavenly curses, I had to seal myself, and we somehow arrived on this planet." Elysia heaved a subtle sigh.

After she said it, she thought about it again. She killed a lot of Ruvoid Monsters, but she received little gains from them. The Ruvoid God also died and received the super potent curse, but she was still in the 7th Rank.

’Yeah, we urgently need to evolve your mortal body. Perhaps our gains went to your soul because of the Primogem in your invisible angelic twin halo, Ely.’ Elena was still suspicious of the Primordial Star in the four-pointed star gem in Elysia’s angelic twin halo.

’Yup, we need to test it with Zera’s assistance. Since Amy has fought the corrupted abyss beings from Nirvana Realm several times. She is a good candidate for us to collect some data.’ Elysia activated the jade box artifact. "Duel Trial, activate."

The jade box opened in half and expanded to form a flat rectangle. A battleground formation with twenty square marks emerged in the middle, and two mini fortresses at the two short sides of the rectangle. Ten pieces then popped out from the two fortresses.

"Woah, we’re going to test it now?" Miko stopped her painting activity and rushed to her mama with curiosity.

"This is the Duel Trial. An artifact to test and hone your comprehension of laws and profound techniques. We need two people for a duel. Zera, please come forth. I need you." Elysia introduced her artifact proudly, and then summoned Zera.

"I’m here, master." Zera emerged from Elysia’s shadow.

"!?" Amy was surprised. She failed to realize such a powerful entity existed in Goddess Elysia’s shadow.

This villain-looking lady was shrouded in deep darkness, similar to the abyss monster from Nirvana Realm. Yet, somehow, her heart said this lady was more terrifying and mysterious.

According to the information she got from her Lord, this darkness lady ruled over the void and was hard to deal with.

"Amy, are you willing to have a small duel with Zera? No betting, just a game to learn more about one’s proficiency and comprehension." Elysia put the Duel Trial Artifact on the table and asked Zera to sit across from Amy.

"With pleasure, but how do we play it?" Amy was intrigued. Goddess Elysia had been busy crafting this artifact since several hours ago, and she was honored to test it.

"Here are the rules. Each side has ten jade pieces that you can manifest into anything, even the embodiment of your technique. Each turn, you get one opportunity to place a warrior to protect the fortress. You can only take action in round two and beyond. Destroy the enemy’s fortress to win. The battle power of each piece will be adjusted, but the summoned entity’s abilities depend on your capabilities."

Elysia explained the rules. She also appointed Fortuna as the judge.

"I see... so it’s like tower defense, but the warriors depend on us, huh... I’m a 16th Rank God Lord-class being, and my opponent is only a 12th Rank True God. Wouldn’t this be unfair? Should I limit my technique and divine laws to only 12th Rank?" Amy nodded in understanding but felt it would be an easy victory because her opponent’s cultivation was much weaker than hers.

"No need. We need to test Goddess Elysia’s newly crafted artifact. Let’s begin now." Zera remained calm, but she had something in mind. She would defeat Amy flawlessly despite the power difference.

"If you are ready, we will determine who gets the first turn. Amy versus Zera, duel start!" Fortuna pressed the virtual start button.

A virtual coin with the names of both players was thrown out of the artifact, and landed in the middle of the battleground. Amy received the first turn.

"Heed to my call, come forth, the Ruler of the Dark Realm!" Amy placed her first piece at the very front.

She imbued her divine law to manifest the best warrior in the first turn, namely herself in attack mode. She wished to teach Zera a lesson with an instant victory.

"Wow, is that yourself in attack mode, Agent Amy?" Miko rested her head on the table, observing closely the newly emerged warrior on Amy’s piece.

"Alright, this one might do. Summon, the Ruvoid Fortress Emperor." Zera placed her piece and summoned an 8th Rank fortress golem monster at the back line in defensive mode.

"Hm?" Amy frowned at that dark golem, but her attention was diverted. The artifact asked her to summon another warrior or attack the opponent.

"Attack." Amy chose the second option without hesitation.

The Ruler of the Dark Realm brandished her spear and attacked the 8th Rank Ruvoid Fortress Emperor with a potent darkness beam. Yet, her attack got swallowed up by the golem. The 8th Rank Ruvoid Fortress Emperor evolved into the 9th Rank Ruvoid Fortress Demi-God.

"E-eh? Is this a malfunction, or did something go wrong? It was an attack from an incarnation of the Goddess toward a mortal fortress golem!" Amy didn’t understand what was happening. She asked Goddess Elysia in confusion.

"There’s no malfunction. Zera’s divine laws and comprehension are quite deep and tricky." Elysia answered with an innocent smile.

"..." Amy was not convinced.

Zera then summoned another monster.

Zera summoned another Ruvoid warrior to fill her backline for the next three rounds. She never once attacked.

Amy owned three God-class warriors on the frontline, confused about why she couldn’t defeat any opposing warriors. Two attacks, and both ended up being swallowed.

On the next turn, Zera chose to attack, and Amy’s warriors were destroyed in that clash. Amy’s fortress was penetrated and collapsed shortly after.

"What!? I immediately lost? This is only the sixth round! Why can those monsters kill my God-class warriors!?" Amy grasped her head in complete disbelief.

She couldn’t harm the enemies, but the Zera’s attacks were super effective at destroying her lineup in one fell swoop.

"The winner is Zera!" Fortuna announced the winner, and the hologram trophy went to Zera.

She then explained a little to Amy. "Can’t you realize what’s going on? Zera’s summoned warriors are Ruvoid entities, similar to the abyss monsters. This isn’t a simple duel game."

"Then, I’ll be serious this time! Another duel." Amy wasn’t convinced of her defeat.

She challenged Zera to another duel but got defeated for the next four matches. She never passed the seventh round, and her fortress was destroyed in the fifth or sixth round.

"What really happened... What are Ruvoid monsters, really? Not even abyss monsters can compare to these troublesome beings." Amy felt so depressed and sad. She rested her head on her arms, looking at Zera questioningly.

"They are the cursed creatures from the unknown outer void that invaded the world we visited before." Zera told the truth casually as if it didn’t matter.

"Huh!?" Amy was shocked.

"You can’t even defeat any summoned monster of mine. How can you become a ruler and Agent of Heaven?" Zera mocked the arrogant Amy with a smirk.

"What did you say!?" Amy got offended, but Goddess Elysia soon intervened.

"Zera, you shouldn’t taunt Amy like that. Agent Amy is strong, but she doesn’t have suitable techniques to counter you. Amy, this is a game of technique and comprehension, not only about attack power. Even your 16th Rank God-class warrior will be restricted."

Elysia explained a little. However, she was satisfied with the results of the data she collected. She could also conclude the abyss monsters were the lite versions of the Ruvoid creatures.

Elysia then moved the Battle Trial Artifact in front of her. She wished to find suitable techniques and methods to counter the Ruvoid creatures with the help of Zera. "Zera, please play with me."

"My honour, my master." Zera replied with a subtle nod.

"!?" Amy was taken aback, but she got excited. She would witness the battle between the troublesome Evil Goddess and the Supreme Order!
