Chapter 556: Racist God
Chapter 556: Racist God
As soon as Elysia and Vanessa arrived at the area close to the Temple of Glory, they no longer wore any invisibility magic cover. Each pedestrian and random passerby was shocked beyond measure because the demi-human, the human with beast features, visited the city.
Not to mention, the rare mythical beasts like the foxkin, and the nine-tailed female one at that! The most sought-after commodity, and the one that would be fought over by countless powerhouses across the continent, especially those old monsters and demons.
"Did you see that? Over there, by the fountain just a moment ago... it’s the nine-tailed shadow fox!" Passerby 1 whispered nervously.
"You’re kidding, right? Here? In the city blessed by God’s protection? But she... her arrival means something terrible is about to happen!" Passerby 2 clutched his head, eyes wide with fear.
"It’s true. I saw her too. She is escorted by a white cat girl. The legends say this fox lady is a harbinger of disaster. We have to warn the authorities immediately!" Passerby 3 rushed over, out of breath.
"I heard that if a female foxkin appears, calamity will follow. Famine, floods, even wars! What if she’s here for us, and what if she baited countless demon predators here? This city shall become battleground!" Storeowner 1 looked around anxiously.
"She’s not just a legend anymore. The old texts describe it, the more beautiful the said foxkin is, and the more tails she has, the bigger the calamity that will happen. But why here? Why now?" Young Master 1 grimly nodded.
Elysia and Vanessa ignored the conversations from the pedestrians and passersby as if they didn’t hear anything. They deliberately left it as it was, and those people could think as they pleased, the more wild the better.
"We should gather the elders, the city’s protectors, anyone who might know how to appease her."
"What if it’s too late? What if the disaster is already on its way?"
"I never thought I’d see her with my own eyes. I hope we can survive whatever she’s brought with her..."
"But who would be brave enough to approach her? She’s not just any fox, she’s... she’s a mythical beast, a spirit of shadows with nine tails! Since she is brave enough to venture into the outside world, her cultivation is obviously not weak."
"It’s a nine-tailed shadow fox! She is probably as strong as a Saint. She may be a sign of impending calamity, but perhaps there’s a way to change it. We have to find out what she wants. If we can offer her something... or maybe even beg her mercy to leave peacefully..."
The conversations and gossip became heated and wild, slowly causing panic and anxiety. Everyone knew that the foxkin would be hunted down by many powerhouses, and every time the beautiful female foxkin emerged, a great war was bound to occur just to fight over her, even though the last time that happened was hundreds of years ago.
The male one would summon the less destructive calamity, but the female one would trigger the great war as she would inevitably incur so many thirsty old monsters.
"Hmm, the same weird custom of exploitation. I wish to see which old monster will receive my punishment later." Elysia shook her head with a sigh.
"It couldn’t be helped, master. We shall see some ignorant fools courting death soon, but Vann shall protect master." Vanessa hugged her master’s arm.
Elysia smiled in reply. She raised two fingers and flew past the stairs, shooting straight to the temple at the top of the hill, Vanessa followed right beside her.
"Boundless, infinite light and life. To the glory of God, may this humble monk inquire the reason for your arrival, esteemed donors?" The gatekeeper monk put his hands together, asking with his eyes still closed.
Vanessa stepped down from her flying sword and went forward to convey her master’s intention. "Hello, we wish to visit the God of Glory’s statue to seek his guidance and enlightenment."
"The lost one, we’ll gladly welcome- uh-huh?" The gatekeeper monk nodded with a subtle smile as it was only lost ladies who wished for guidance from God through prayer, but when he noticed the ladies’ true identities, it truly shocked him. It was two demi-humans, a cat, and a nine-tailed fox!
"!!!" The gatekeeper monk opened his eyes wide with shock, and anxiety, and fear began to creep into his mind and heart. He was forced to mutter a mantra to calm himself down, yet he was blacked out all of a sudden.
Vanessa exuded her 10th Rank aura as she sensed the monk’s sudden vigilance suddenly turned into a hostile one. She rendered him unconscious right away, using her energy pressure. "What’s wrong with him? He’s pretty friendly at first, but suddenly becomes hostile."
"Maybe, it’s because of a sudden shock and fear. Let’s enter the temple’s hall." Elysia tapped her dark flying sword with her feet lightly and it flew to float behind her back.
"Wow." Vanessa also tried to tap her flying sword, but it was still motionless. It was apparently not a sword with a spirit. She then looked to the side and walked beside her master, entering the Temple of Glory through the front gate while exuding her 10th Rank aura blatantly.
Several monks and nuns who happened to witness the nine-tailed shadow fox, escorted by the Deity-level white cat lady, were extremely shocked. By the time they regained their composure, the nine-tailed shadow fox and the Deity-level white cat lady had already entered the sacred hall.
An uproar suddenly erupted and they rushed to report the situation to the elders. After all, they couldn’t possibly handle the situation where a mythical creature was involved, much less the one escorted by the Deity-level cat lady.
"This place is a branch of the great temple, but this one will do." Elysia muttered softly while staring at the golden statue in the center of the hall.
Standing at the height of an average human, the statue radiated a warm, golden glow. The God of Glory was depicted in a tranquil, yet commanding posture with one hand raised in a gesture of blessing, while the others held a lotus, a conch, and a spear respectively.
The face of the statue was serene with a gentle smile that exuded both compassion and wisdom, eyes half-closed as if in deep meditation.
The statue’s body was draped in a finely detailed cloth, the folds of which were so carefully sculpted that they appeared almost as if they could flutter in the breeze. A garland of flowers coiled around the neck like a necklace, each petal delicately carved and seemingly fresh, despite being cast in solid gold.
The base of the statue was inscribed with ancient verses, paying homage to God’s divine qualities and roles.
After observing the details, Elysia paid her respect to the God of Glory and sat gracefully on the floor, facing the golden statue.
"..." Vanessa pondered about it for a second. There were no benches or chairs. Only the empty hall with a golden statue in the middle. She then also sat on the floor, next to her master.
’Ely, should we summon it like how we usually do?’ Elena asked in wonder.
Elysia used her sacred vision, but she found no divine revelation nor any hint of God’s presence from the golden statue, only the slumbering divine consciousness fragment. ’Erm, he’s currently disconnected from the mortal world. Let’s awaken his consciousness fragment.’
’Yeah, his people are causing trouble for our church as well, so we should demand an explanation.’ Elena nodded in agreement.
"Vann, I shall summon a God’s consciousness to this place. Please guard me from any disturbance." Elysia put her hand above her opened palm, raising upward.
"Yes, master. Please leave it to me." Vanessa thumped her chest.
The golden magic circle emerged on the floor and it expanded to cover the golden statue. Elysia cast a divine summoning technique to awaken the slumbering fragment within the golden statue.
The atmosphere suddenly became thick with tension as the divine consciousness within the golden statue was called to awaken from his slumber. Vanessa’s eyes gleamed with a mix of anticipation and unease.
"Answer my call, Nieyr, O the God of Glory." Elysia called upon the ancient divine power. The incantation echoed through the sacred chamber, and the golden statue began to glow with a blinding radiance.
Slowly, God’s spiritual form emerged from the statue. His divine form was both majestic and magnificent, bathed in golden light.
However, the aura of glorious divinity was quickly overshadowed by a palpable sense of disdain. The God’s eyes, sharp and judgmental, scanned the hall before finally resting on the two demi-human ladies before him. His gaze swept over the white tiger and then the nine-tailed shadow fox.
His expression twisted into one of contempt as he spoke, his voice thunderous and filled with scorn. "So, it is you, lowly demi-humans, who dares summon me? And one with the blood of beasts no less?"
Elysia, usually poised and confident, felt a chill run down her spine. She had expected power, perhaps even resistance, but not this blatant hostility and racism.
"I have no time for the likes of you or your kind. Beasts who walk like humans, trying to resemble human appearance, yet are nothing more than abominations. To think you would dare to invoke my name... Disgusting." The God continued, his tone dripping with prejudice.
The words hung in the air, heavy and cruel. Elysia was shaken a bit, but she took a deep breath and stood her ground.
A being so blinded by his own superiority that he could not see beyond the surface. No wonder his followers were so hostile to the Elysion Chruch, uncaring about any reason and cause. The God they worshipped was actually so racist and self-conceited!
