Chapter 108: The Aftermath of War
Chapter 108: The Aftermath of War
A Triumphant Return
Seraphis climbed the worn wooden stairs of the Assassin’s Guild, her steps unhurried yet commanding. The blood on her clothes had dried, dark and crusted, the scent still lingering in the air. The weight of her recent victory clung to her like a second skin, a reminder of the chaos she had just left behind.
When she reached the second floor, she noticed something peculiar—the Guild Master’s door was already open.
She smirked. He was waiting.
A Bold Entrance
She stepped inside without hesitation. The room was dimly lit, candles flickering against the stone walls. The Guild Master sat at his desk, fingers steepled together, his sharp eyes already locked onto hers.
She leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, and smirked.
“Well,” she said, her voice laced with amusement, “I just ran through the enemy guild and left it in ruins. How do you like that?”
A Measured Response
The Guild Master exhaled slowly, his gaze assessing her. For a long moment, he didn’t speak, simply taking in the sight of her—the bloodstains, the exhaustion barely hidden behind her confident stance, the cold fire still burning in her eyes.
Then, he chuckled.
“I’d say,” he mused, leaning back in his chair, “that you’ve made one hell of a mess.”
Seraphis raised an eyebrow. “You disapprove?”
“Not in the slightest.” His lips curled into a smirk. “But I do wonder if you realize the full consequences of what you’ve done.”
The Weight of War
Seraphis pushed off the doorframe and walked further into the room, dropping into the chair across from him. She stretched her legs out, completely at ease despite the conversation.
“I sent a message,” she said. “Loud and clear.”
The Guild Master nodded. “That you did. But now, every other guild in the city is going to be watching us. Some will be afraid. Others will see this as a challenge.”
Seraphis shrugged. “Let them.”
The Eyes in the Shadows
The Guild Master tapped his fingers against the desk. “Word spreads fast in our world. By now, the remaining assassins from that guild will have scattered like rats. Some will try to join other guilds, others will seek revenge.”
Seraphis smirked. “Let them come.”
He sighed, rubbing his temples. “You always were reckless.”
She tilted her head. “And yet, here I am. Still standing.”
The Price of Power
He studied her, his gaze unreadable. “Tell me, Seraphis—what’s your endgame?”
She raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
He leaned forward, his expression suddenly serious. “You don’t just fight for survival. You fight like someone with something to prove. You didn’t just kill that guild’s master—you made a spectacle of it. Why?”
Seraphis was silent for a moment.
Then, she smirked. “Because I wanted to.”
A Dangerous Path
The Guild Master exhaled. “One day, that mindset is going to get you killed.”
Seraphis shrugged. “Maybe. But not today.”
He shook his head, a chuckle escaping him. “You’re impossible.”
She grinned. “And yet, you keep sending me on jobs.”
The Warning
The Guild Master’s expression turned serious again. “Watch your back, Seraphis. You may be strong, but you’re not untouchable.”
Her smirk faded slightly. She knew that.
But she wouldn’t admit it.
An Unexpected Offer
He reached into a drawer and pulled out a small black envelope, sliding it across the desk.
Seraphis picked it up, flipping it between her fingers. “Another job?”
He nodded. “A high-profile one. Not just an assassination—a message.”
She opened the envelope and scanned the contents. Her eyes gleamed with interest.
“This one’s personal.”
The Guild Master nodded. “It always is.”
A Deal Sealed in Blood
Seraphis smirked. “When do I start?”
“Tonight.”
She stood, tucking the envelope into her coat. “Perfect.”
A Game of Shadows
As she turned to leave, the Guild Master spoke again.
“Seraphis.”
She glanced back.
His gaze was sharp. “No survivors.”
Her smirk widened. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
And with that, she disappeared into the shadows.
The hunt was on.
