Chapter 145: The Tower’s End – Seraphis vs. Lady Velmira

Chapter 145: The Tower’s End – Seraphis vs. Lady Velmira

The storm raged above the Blackspire Tower, its dark clouds roiling like an omen of the battle to come. Lightning flashed, illuminating the fortress's highest chamber, where Lady Velmira awaited.

Seraphis stood at the threshold, her breath steady despite the weight of exhaustion clawing at her muscles. Behind her, the rest of her team—Elyndra, Kaela, and Sylvaine—gathered their strength. They had fought through hordes of Velmira’s enchanted guards, their bodies battered and bloodied, yet their resolve remained unshaken.

A final confrontation was inevitable.

A towering set of obsidian doors loomed ahead, adorned with eldritch carvings that pulsed with violet energy. Seraphis reached out, pressing her palm against the surface. The air shuddered.

The doors groaned open, revealing Lady Velmira—the sorceress who had orchestrated countless assassinations, ruling the shadows with an iron grip.

She stood atop an altar of black stone, her robes billowing as dark energy swirled around her, feeding off the tower’s very foundation.

"You should have stayed in the dark where you belong," Velmira said, her voice a serpentine whisper.

Seraphis drew her twin daggers, her metal playing cards hovering around her like spectral blades.

"And let you keep slaughtering innocents?" she spat.

Velmira smiled, her crimson lips curling with amusement.

"Foolish girl. You should have learned by now... power demands sacrifice."

With a snap of her fingers, the chamber exploded into chaos.

A Battle of Shadows and Steel

A dozen spears of black energy erupted from the ground, forcing Seraphis and the others to scatter.

Elyndra rolled to the side, her greatsword clashing against the spears, shattering two before another grazed her shoulder, leaving a searing wound.

Kaela flashed forward, her daggers singing as she struck at Velmira, but the sorceress vanished into a blur of mist, reappearing above them.

From her perch, Velmira unleashed a storm of dark projectiles, each one spinning with cursed energy.

Sylvaine fired three arrows in quick succession, but Velmira’s barrier of violet flames incinerated them before they could even reach her.

Seraphis felt her heart pound.

Velmira was stronger than they expected.

She gritted her teeth and lunged, her metal cards spiraling around her as she hurled them toward the sorceress.

The blades flashed through the air, their forms shifting mid-flight—one extending into a rapier, another morphing into a jagged spear.

But Velmira was ready.

With a wave of her hand, she conjured shimmering chains from the ground.

Seraphis’s body locked up—her arms yanked backward as the chains wrapped around her limbs, the magic searing her flesh like fire.

A sharp cry escaped her lips.

Velmira descended gracefully, her high-heeled boots clicking against the stone.

"Did you think your little tricks would work on me?" she taunted, tilting Seraphis’s chin up with a single finger.

Seraphis growled, fighting against the chains, but the magic held firm.

Then—Kaela struck.

The rogue darted forward, her twin daggers slicing through the chains, shattering the dark magic that bound Seraphis.

Seraphis dropped to her knees, panting, before flipping back onto her feet, her cards returning to her hands.

They weren’t out yet.

Counterattack – Pushing Through the Pain

Elyndra charged, her greatsword igniting with holy light, slashing toward Velmira’s chest.

Velmira twisted, her robes flowing unnaturally as she caught the blade with her bare hand

A pulse of black energy erupted, sending Elyndra flying across the chamber, her back slamming against a pillar, cracking the stone.

Kaela leaped next, her daggers striking in a flurry—one, two, three, four rapid slashes—but Velmira parried each with a single curved blade she had conjured from the shadows.

With a brutal backhand, she sent Kaela tumbling, her side cracking against the floor.

Seraphis felt her rage boil.

"Enough!" she snarled.

Her cards whirled around her, shifting into a dozen dagger-like projectiles.

She threw them all at once.

Velmira raised a hand

The daggers split apart mid-air—reforming into thin, silver threads that wrapped around Velmira’s arms and neck.

Velmira’s eyes widened

Seraphis yanked, the threads pulling tight like garrotes, forcing the sorceress to her knees.

For the first time, Velmira grimaced.

But she was not done yet.

The Breaking Point

A shockwave of raw energy burst outward, shattering the bindings and sending Seraphis skidding back, her knees scraping against the floor.

Velmira’s eyes glowed with fury, her form hovering above the ground as black wings of shadow unfurled behind her.

"You—will—die—here."

The air shattered like glass, a tempest of magic engulfing the room.

Seraphis barely had time to react before a whip of energy lashed across her back, burning through her armor, pain flaring up her spine.

Elyndra gritted her teeth, standing despite her wounds, her sword glowing.

Kaela coughed, blood staining her lips, but she forced herself up.

Sylvaine, breath ragged, nocked another arrow.

"We finish this together," Seraphis whispered.

The girls exchanged nods.

And then they attacked as one.

The Final Blow

Elyndra swung down with all her might—

Kaela struck low, her daggers aiming for Velmira’s ribs—

Sylvaine fired a divine arrow, its light piercing through the darkness

Seraphis leaped high, her cards forming a spinning spear, driving it straight toward Velmira’s heart.

Velmira screamed, her magic shattering, the impact cracking the chamber walls.

The sorceress collapsed, her power dissolving into smoke, her voice a whisper of disbelief—

"Impossible..."

The room fell silent.

A Wounded Victory

Seraphis collapsed to one knee, her breath ragged. Blood dripped from her wounds, her body trembling with exhaustion.

Kaela sank against a pillar, clutching her bruised ribs.

Elyndra barely held herself up, using her sword as support, while Sylvaine leaned against the wall, her bow slipping from her fingers.

They had won.

But just barely.

Seraphis let out a ragged breath.

"It’s over."

And as the first light of dawn crept through the shattered ceiling, the Blackspire Tower finally fell.
