Chapter 242 – The Hunt for Another Elder (Final Part)

Darkness swallowed everything.

Veylan felt himself falling.

The weight of the abyss dragged at his body, pulling him into its endless depths.

He struggled to move, to break free—

But the shadows clung to him, sinking into his skin like tendrils of living nightmare.

Lilith’s voice cut through the void.

"Veylan! Where are you?!"

He turned, barely making out her silhouette against the suffocating blackness.

She was fighting something

Shapes moved around her, writhing and shifting, whispering in voices too low to understand.

Then—

A crack of red lightning split the darkness.

Kaelmont descended.

His form was warped, shadows seeping from his body like liquid smoke.

His eyes burned, twin pits of white-hot fire.

"This is my domain," he whispered.

The abyss shuddered at his words, pulsing like a living thing.

Veylan clenched his sword tighter.

"Then I'll tear it apart."

He drove forward.

The air crackled as his blade met Kaelmont’s claws.

A shockwave erupted, forcing the abyss to twist and recoil.

Lilith broke free, darting toward them, her daggers aimed for Kaelmont’s heart.

But the Elder anticipated it.

A wall of black flame burst between them, forcing her back.

Veylan pressed the attack, slashing relentlessly.

Kaelmont blocked, parried, countered—

But he was on the defensive.

For the first time, the Elder looked strained.

"Enough."

Kaelmont thrust out his hand

A torrent of black spears shot forth, aimed at Veylan’s chest.

He barely dodged, feeling the heat as they tore through the air.

Lilith rejoined the fray, cutting through the dark.

Kaelmont twisted, avoiding the blow—

But Veylan was already moving.

He struck low, aiming for Kaelmont’s legs.

The Elder jumped back—

But not fast enough.

The tip of Veylan’s blade bit into his thigh, drawing black blood.

Kaelmont snarled.

His form shimmered, warping—

And suddenly, he was behind them.

"Die."

A pulse of energy erupted.

Veylan barely had time to react before the force slammed into him, sending him hurtling backward.

He crashed against something solid, pain lancing through his ribs.

Lilith skidded across the abyss, coughing as she struggled to rise.

Kaelmont hovered above them, his power swelling.

"You are nothing here."

The abyss shifted.

The darkness coiled tighter, pressing in from all sides.

Veylan’s breathing grew shallow.

He could feel the abyss eating at his strength, pulling his consciousness downward.

"Veylan—" Lilith’s voice was weak, distant.

Kaelmont descended, his form growing larger, more monstrous.

The abyss was becoming him.

"I will consume you."

Veylan gritted his teeth.

No.

He wouldn’t let it end here.

Not like this.

His hand tightened around his sword.

A soft glow pulsed from its core—

Faint, but growing.

Kaelmont paused.

"What is that?"

Veylan didn’t answer.

Instead, he stood.

His body ached.

His vision blurred.

But he was still here.

He focused, calling forth the last of his strength.

His sword flared.

A brilliant light erupted, piercing the abyss like a blade.

Kaelmont hissed, recoiling.

The darkness around them quivered.

Lilith gasped, shielding her eyes.

Kaelmont snarled. "Impossible!"

Veylan didn’t hesitate.

He charged.

Kaelmont lashed out

A wave of pure shadow crashed against him—

But he cut through it.

His blade sang, slicing through the Elder’s defenses.

Kaelmont’s expression twisted in rage.

"I am eternal!"

"Not anymore."

Veylan’s blade drove forward.

Kaelmont tried to move—

But it was too late.

The sword pierced his chest.

For a moment, there was silence.

Then—

The abyss screamed.

Kaelmont’s body convulsed, shadows unraveling from his form.

"No—!"

The darkness began to collapse.

Lilith ran toward Veylan, eyes wide.

"We need to get out of here!"

Veylan nodded.

Kaelmont’s body shattered, dissolving into the void.

The abyss imploded.

A rush of wind dragged them upward.

Veylan reached for Lilith—

Their hands clasped—

And then—

The world snapped back into existence.

They collapsed onto solid ground.

The fortress was gone.

The abyss was no more.

The battle was over.

But the war was just beginning.
