Chapter 268 - 268 267 Youre So Clever
?Chapter 268: Chapter 267: You’re So Clever Chapter 268: Chapter 267: You’re So Clever Along the way, they encountered quite a few zombies, but Su Wei’s off-road vehicle performed very well and simply charged through them.
After a few more minutes of driving, they encountered the army rescuing survivors and gathering supplies ahead.
Su Wei was ready to follow the army, but Luo Ning and the others politely declined his invitation.
Since he wouldn’t need the off-road vehicle anymore, he gave it to Luo Ning as a way to repay her for saving his life.
They were not far from the square now, and Luo Ning had a map in hand. Su Wei pointed out the route on the map before leaving with the military personnel.
Fan Ye took the driver’s seat.
Over ten minutes later, the vehicle arrived at Central Square.
The area used to be a square where vehicles were prohibited, so they had an unobstructed way in.
Now that it was the apocalypse, there was naturally no need to park the car in a parking lot.
However, because this was a central square, it used to be bustling with people.
A number of zombies wandered around the square. As soon as the car stopped, these zombies, smelling the scent, flocked over in unison.
Fan Ye asked Bo Xuan, “With so many zombies surrounding us, should I drive into them?”
Bo Xuan shook his head, “Crashing into them won’t help, they’ll just regroup and surround us again.”
“We need to find a way to temporarily lure these zombies away, so we can get our hands on the clues first.”
Fan Ye further inquired, “But how can we draw the zombies away?”
Luo Ning took out a few strings of firecrackers from her backpack, “These can lure the zombies away.”
Fan Ye and the others were astonished, “Where did you get firecrackers?”
They had heard that zombies gathered at the sound, so firecrackers would indeed be useful.
However, they hadn’t seen any at the supermarket, nor had they seen Luo Ning take them.
Luo Ning said with a smile, “I saw them in the trunk when Su Wei opened it in the underground parking lot. I put them in my backpack just in case, and didn’t expect to use them so soon.”
She had a deeper understanding of zombies than anyone else here.
So as soon as she saw the firecrackers, she didn’t hesitate to pack them up.
Yue Xiao sighed, “You’re like a walking treasury!”
Just after finding the map, now she took out firecrackers to attract zombies; she always seemed to think and gather a step ahead of everyone else.
Luo Ning smiled, “Thanks for the compliment.”
She turned to Bo Xuan, “Captain, assign the tasks. We should be the first team to arrive here, and getting the clues is crucial.”
Bo Xuan nodded, first observing the number of zombies nearby and their distance.
He then told Fan Ye, “Drive the car to that corner, and once we light the firecrackers and attract the zombies, immediately turn around and rush to the center of the square, where we’ll get out and look for clues.”
He added, “If anything unexpected happens, get back to the car immediately, life preservation is more important.”
Fan Ye nodded and sped away from the zombies towards the back.
Then Bo Xuan and Yue Xiao lit the firecrackers and threw them out of the rear window.
As expected, the sound of the firecrackers drew the zombies toward the source of the noise.
Fan Ye immediately drove the car to the steps in the center of the square.
Bo Xuan told Fan Ye to stay in the car, to be ready to leave in case anything unexpected occurred, making it easier for everyone to escape.
The others got out of the car. A few stray zombies still lingered around the square, possibly too far away to be attracted by the sound of firecrackers.
Yue Xiao and Jin Feiyang took out knives to deal with the zombies, while Luo Ning and Bo Xuan quickly started searching for clues on Central Square.
After a round of searching, they found nothing on the square.
“Nothing here, could it be nearby?” Bo Xuan said anxiously.
But the area was too vast. Without any leads, it was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
The zombies attracted by the firecracker sounds would soon disperse and start heading this way again; they didn’t have much time left.
Luo Ning shook her head, “If the text message indicated Central Square, then it shouldn’t be nearby.”
She then looked around, and when her gaze fell on a tall stele in Central Square, she casually scanned the inscriptions on it.
“The clues are hidden in the words on that stele,” she said.
After reading the inscription again and pondering, she finally realized that if the two middle lines were read horizontally, they revealed a location.
“To the left of Central Square, the cash register of the third jewelry store.” Luo Ning read out loud and quickly ran towards the jewelry store.
Bo Xuan followed suit.
The zombies had already left the jewelry store, and it was empty at the moment.
Luo Ning approached the cash desk, opened the drawer to look inside, where there was only some cash.
Then she checked the computer at the register and started it up.
As soon as the computer booted up, a voice suddenly rang out.
“Observant, aren’t you. Congratulations on finding the most crucial clue to the main task.”
“To rank in the competition, you must accumulate three comprehensive elements.”
“Firstly, you need to accumulate goodwill points.”
“Choosing an apocalypse backdrop implies a test of human nature. The organizers want participants to remember their roots, to be people of righteousness and responsibility.”
“So starting from your entry here, every team earns a goodwill point for each person they save. After a month, these can be exchanged for the total score.”
“The more goodwill points you accrue, the higher the total score you can exchange for.”
“Second, the city is now under military control and will soon establish a survivor base and issue tasks.”
“Participants must actively take on these tasks. For every task completed, you’ll receive a merit point.”
“Merit points can also be exchanged for the total score after a month, the more merit points, the higher the score.”
“Third, I hope you’ll actively participate in the construction efforts against the zombies in Apocalypse City. As long as a team makes a significant contribution, the intelligent system will award contribution points.”
“These contribution points will also be used to exchange for the final total score.”
“The competition’s total score is one hundred points, with each of the three comprehensive elements accounting for thirty percent. So don’t think about taking shortcuts, focusing on one aspect to exploit—it’s useless.”
“Later on, we will provide you with hidden clues from the main tasks, making up the remaining ten percent of the total score. It will depend on the completion of these tasks by the various teams.”
“Absolute fairness, openness, and justice.”
“Oh, and damaging this clue’s display device is not allowed; otherwise, immediate disqualification.”
After that final statement, the computer screen automatically went dark.
Luo Ning also turned off the recording function on her phone watch.
Seeing her action, the others were surprised, “You recorded it?”
Luo Ning replied with a smile, “This clue is related to the most important ranking in the competition, of course, I recorded it. It might be very useful later.”
As such, the moment that voice started speaking, she had instantly turned on the recording function and captured it all.
Bo Xuan looked at her with a meaningful smile, “You’re really clever; this will definitely be of great use.”
When the voice stopped speaking, he was thinking he should have recorded it from the start and regretted his slightly slow reaction.
He was pleasantly surprised that Luo Ning had cleverly done it instead.
