“Why should we leave? This isn’t his inn after all. I don’t see why I should leave.” Wei Yiling said as she walked over.
Ye Chen was calmly eating his food, completely aware of the two girls approaching.
“I think you two should have a chat,” suggested Wan Lan.
“No need for a chat, I’m hungry.”
Ye Chen continued to eat his food, observing the busy street.
“Are you sure you don’t need to talk things over?” Wan Lan asked again.
“I’m not up for a chat; I don’t even know what to talk about. Waiter, get us a roast chicken!” shouted Ling’er.
Ye Chen spotted a familiar figure on the street, stood up and called, “Feng Niang!”
Feng Niang raised her head and saw Ye Chen.
“Come on up,” Ye Chen waved at Feng Niang.
“What a surprise, indeed,” Ling’er said coldly.
“Let’s order some tea,” suggested Mu Wanlan.
Feng Niang, unaware that Ling’er was also upstairs, walked up. When she discovered that the girls were at the inn and eating separately, she knew there was no turning back and proceeded over.
“We will soon be a family. Why are we eating separately?” Feng Niang quipped.
“Who says we are a family? It’s up to me in the end,” retorted Ye Chen.
Ling’er turned her back on them.
Ye Chen asked, “What do you feel like eating? It’s my treat.”
“Anything will do.”
“Do you recognize anyone else on this street?”
Feng Niang shook her head. “It’s been many years since I’ve been back. I’m just strolling around to see what’s changed.”
“I’ve lived here for over four years. It hasn’t changed much in that time.”
Ye Chen ordered some chopsticks for Wan Lan and more food.
“We should eat with them,” Feng Niang glanced at the girls across the table.
“Didn’t you two have a dispute! Aren’t you afraid she’ll call you an old woman if you sit together?”
“I’m not that petty.”
“She may not be as civilized as you.”
“It’s more exciting with four people than just two. You all should have a good chat.”
“I really don’t know what to talk about.”
“Oh come on, aren’t you great at chatting!”
“I really don’t know what to say,” said Ye Chen.
Feng Niang chuckled. “Before, you knew what to talk about. But now, you don’t have anything to say? That’s unusual! You’ve both agreed to be together, so you should communicate.”
“How do you know I’ll agree?”
“I’m guessing.”
“Her father is really persuasive. He can make me agree without knowing exactly what happened. I didn’t even react to what happened,” Ye Chen complained.
“Really!”
“Yes. I couldn’t counter his arguments. He left me speechless.”
Unexpectedly, Feng Niang picked up her food and went over to the girls, saying, “We’re too quiet over here. Let’s eat together; there’s more food that way.”
Before Ye Chen could respond, she was gone. He couldn’t stop her in time.
Feng Niang called out, “Ye Chen, bring the food over quickly!”
Ye Chen quickly brought the food over.
Wan Lan glanced at Ling’er, who did not respond. She thought Ling’er would get angry, but she just stayed silent.
“We are almost a family. It’s time to get to know each other better.”
They both exclaimed at once, “Who wants to become a family with him (her)?!”
Feng Niang chuckled at the protest. “Take it slow. It’s more lively with four people, and there’s more food. Help yourselves.”
For some reason, Ye Chen became quiet.
Ling’er also fell silent, not uttering a word.
Feng Niang tried to lighten the mood, but it didn’t work. Maybe they were too shy to speak around her.
Not long afterwards, they left the inn.
Upon reaching the entrance to Sky Lake Manor, Ling’er and Wan Lan went in first. Ye Chen paused, pointing at Liuye Manor opposite and saying, “That’s where I used to live, just across the road. I lived there for four years. Would you like to take a look?”
Feng Niang walked over, opening the courtyard door. Seeing no changes, she was relieved the inn hadn’t been demolished.
Feng Niang glanced at the lake and noted, “Not bad.”
“Right, except it’s a bit too far from the bustling streets.”
“I don’t mind. I like the tranquility here.” Feng Niang gazed at the western sky above the lake, where a sliver of the setting sun lingered, unwilling to fade away.
Ye Chen pointed ahead, saying, “I sometimes fish there. If I get too bored, I’ll take a small boat out onto the lake.”
“Nice. You really know how to enjoy life,” Feng Niang commented.
Suddenly, Ye Chen gathered his energy and let loose the Red Demonic Spirit that had been hidden within his body. “Alright, it’s time for you to come out and greet your sweetheart.”
A red python-like creature whirled out, coiling around a willow tree several times.
Feng Niang truly got a shock, but she quickly regained her composure.
The Red Demonic Spirit greeted her.
“I’ve done everything I can for you. I think you guys should have a good chat now,” Ye Chen said.
“That’s really scary,” Feng Niang replied.
“When I first saw him, it was even scarier. He directly sucked the life out of those children.”
“Don’t listen to his nonsense; those children were trying to capture me, I had no choice but to do it,” the Red Demonic Spirit explained.
“Then why didn’t you suck the life out of Ye Chen?”
“He thinks I’m still useful, so he didn’t drain me dry,” Ye Chen replied.
“Ye Chen said you like me, are you tricking me?” Feng Niang plucked up her courage and approached, the Red Demonic Spirit had left half his face visible.
But Ye Chen replied, “I didn’t deceive you. The first night I saw you, you were drunk, the Red Demonic Spirit wanted to strip your clothes off, luckily, I didn’t let him stay, he is quite naughty.”
Feng Niang glared at him with her eyes wide open.
“It’s true, he was thinking about it, that time, I was led away by the men in black below.”
“You’re talking nonsense, when did I ever think about stripping people off their clothes, it’s you who wanted to,” the Red Demonic Spirit protested, “You’re ruining my image.”
“All right,” Ye Chen continued, “Be careful, don’t let him take control over you, if he does, it’s quite possible that he might control you, I won’t be taking responsibility for whatever happens.”
Ye Chen wanted to leave, giving them some space.
“You little rascal, why are you so talkative, why don’t you just go,”
Ye Chen smiled lightly and said, “I don’t care anymore.” He turned around and left, closing the courtyard gate again.
The Red Demonic Spirit said, “Don’t listen to his ravings, he likes to joke around; I’m not that kind of person.”
Feng Niang chuckled and said, “I thought he was just teasing me, turns out you really do exist.”
“I had no other choice. If I didn’t hide within him, I would have been discovered, and they would still capture me. I was forced by circumstances.”
“So, who controls who between you and Ye Chen?”
“When he was young, I controlled him, but now that his martial arts skills have improved, he naturally controls me, unless his willpower isn’t strong, like when he’s drunk, then I can control him,” the Red Demonic Spirit explained.
“Ye Chen said you like me.”
“Hmm, what do you think, considering being with me?”
“Hehe, my heart has been dead for a long time.”
“Still thinking about Wei Sisan, are you? He’s ill-stricken, and won’t live for a few more years.”
“Hehe, I hadn’t expected you to be so direct.”
“I’m telling the truth, I’ve checked on him, this injury coupled with the recurrence of his chronic disease, all combined, this time, he passed on his position as Sect Leader to Ye Chen, perhaps he sensed something inside, which led him to make this decision,” the Red Demonic Spirit analyzed.
Feng Niang found a stool, positioned herself towards the setting sun and sat down. There were a few boats drifting on the surface of the lake, making it very quiet. She, of course, was aware of Wei Sisan’s poor health. This fact also gave her a bit of a shock, making her realize that she should let go of the past.
“Do you want to take a spin on the lake?” the Red Demonic Spirit asked.
“Better not, if people see you, you might scare them,” Feng Niang said.
“I can just hide inside you.”
“You really want to control me, strip me, huh? I won’t fall for it!”
“Hey, the kid’s words can’t be trusted, do you think I look like that kind of person!”
“Hard to say, I can’t see your heart, it’s better to be cautious.”
Feng Niang, getting curious, asked: “I heard there were two demonic spirits.”
“Yes, I’m with this kid and the other one was captured by Gao Ba. We haven’t seen each other for many years, I don’t know if the Black Demonic Spirit is dead or alive, but I guess being with Gao Ba wouldn’t be good either.”
“The martial arts skills of Ye Chen, were those taught by you?”
“His martial arts skills were all discovered from that Jade Ring. I just helped him understand it, so you could say I’m half a master.”
“So there’s a ring as magical as that.”
“Yes, it contains a very powerful energy.”
“Did you order Ye Chen to court me?” Feng Niang asked.
“I was afraid to scare you, so I had no other choice,” the Red Demonic Spirit replied.
“He’s quite obedient.”
“He’s really disobedient! Always going against me, I had to beg him before he agreed.”
“So you intend to spend your life hiding inside him like this?”
“I wouldn’t want to either, but I have no choice. You were prepared and yet you’re still so shocked. What to say about others? Not to mention the Demon and Evil Domains, if they know about me, they’ll definitely try to capture me back yo use me for their martial arts cultivation.”
“Use you for martial arts cultivation?”
“To cultivate their Internal Power, the Red and Black Demon King did so a thousand years ago. Otherwise, the Demon Domain wouldn’t have tried everything to release me from Earth Demon Island.”
“Don’t you have a way to regain your physical body?”
“It’s very hard, I dare not even think about it.”
“How hard can it be?”
“I need to obtain a really strong energy, otherwise it won’t succeed.”
“Then let Ye Chen help you find a solution.”
“But that kid, he’s always messing around, deceiving me.”
“Not at all, he’s quite serious.”
“Let’s not talk about him, haven’t you considered starting over?”
“What is there to start over!”
