?Chapter 194: Chapter 188: Trapped in Centipede Mountain Chapter 194: Chapter 188: Trapped in Centipede Mountain Ye Chen glanced around, the forest here was not as gloomy as the one they’d left behind.
It was already noon, quite unwittingly.
Ye Chen called out: “Alright, let’s rest here.”
He had only slept for four hours this morning, and his head was aching badly, like it was splitting from a hangover.
At this moment, Can Mo and the others were setting up traps.
Like him, these people needed rest too.
Ye Chen mumbled to himself: “I should have known better than to accept their surrender. It would have been better if I had just knocked them out as if I heard nothing. Why did we bring this trouble to ourselves? I thought capturing Yang Jing would give us an advantage over Jiang Zhuge, but I never thought that damn Yang Jing would resort to this.”
Ling’er heard him and gave a cold chuckle from beside a tree.
“We’ve been completely fooled,” Ye Chen continued, “I believe Yang Jing had calculated everything, he knew someone would try to rescue him, so he acted accordingly.”
“You think you’re the only clever one? Others are not stupid.”
“I’m not stupid either!” Ye Chen said, taking a deep breath.
Due to the density of the forest, the mist hadn’t completely dissipated by noon. The leaves rotting under the trees gave off an unpleasant smell, ruining everyone’s appetite. Ling’er complained, “This place is insufferable, it’s not meant for humans.”
“Don’t suggest that I dragged you down here. I did give you an opportunity to go back.”
“But you provoked me, so that’s why I came.”
“I provoked you? Did I really?”
“You underestimate us girls.”
“My goodness, have I expressed any sort of disdain towards you girls?”
“Yes, you did. You think we are not as good as you boys.”
“Who said that? I’m just concerned about your safety and think it’s unnecessary for you to take such risks.”
“I have to show you that girls are not worse than boys. Otherwise, it would be a disgrace.”
“You’re easily influenced by others. For the sake of a mere few words, you’d act recklessly, making you an easy target for manipulation.”
“Relax, I can tell if I’m being used.”
“Alright then.” Ye Chen closed his eyes, “I’m really beat, I need a good sleep. If I don’t get some sleep soon, I’ll need someone to carry me.”
Da Gui found Ci Ye and said, “Ci Ye, it will take us three or four days to exit Centipede Mountain along the route he chose. The path through Centipede Mountain is difficult. Society can’t easily escape in a short time. We have plenty of time.”
“Have we located them yet?”
Da Gui unfolded a map and said, “They were resting here at noon. We can’t get too close, though, because we don’t know if they’ve split up or your boss is among them. It will take us some time.”
Ci Ye nodded. They indeed had plenty of time now that they had entered Centipede Mountain.
Ci Ye looked at the map and said, “We are still quite far away. It will take us some time to catch up.”
“Should we send a group ahead first? Their quick movement might be helpful.”
But Ci Ye said, “You guys continue following them from behind, while I lead our people around to this side of the mountainside, swiftly.”
“You plan to get ahead of them.”
“Indeed, I will take a group of fast movers and encircle them from the front. You guys should continue following from behind.”
“That’s a good idea. When the time comes, we can encircle them together,” said Da Gui.
Ci Ye had the same idea, but he was just not sure if those people had split up and if someone might have already taken Yang Jing away. He had to confirm this.
“Let’s eat first before we split up. I’ll lend you some of our men to assist you.”
“Thank you so much.”
“No problem, we all despise the New City Sect, we should cooperate.” Of course, Da Gui cared more about the silver.
Not long after, someone came back to report, “It’s confirmed, your boss is with that group.”
Hearing this, Ci Ye became more composed and said, “That’s great.” He said to Da Gui, “As long as you keep them occupied, I can find a way to quickly cross over and intercept them midway. Then we can attack them together.”
Da Gui said, “Great, let’s do that. As long as they are together, we can work together and definitely rescue your boss. In doing so, we can easily obliterate them.”
“Let’s focus on rescuing our boss first.”
“Alright.”
The sky gradually darkened as members of the New City Sect crossed over the area where the traps had been set.
Ye Chen slightly relieved, asking, “Are all the traps in place?”
“In this area, all traps are set. They should give the enemy a hard time,” Can Mo replied.
“Great, I was planning to get a good night’s sleep. Everyone was up fighting last night and didn’t get much rest. Tonight, we can finally get some sleep,” Ye Chen said. Apparently, without the traps, he wouldn’t have slept well tonight.
Ling’er asked, “Should we find a place to rest now?”
Can Mo said, “There’s a cliff up ahead with a small pond on it. We can rest there. Even if it rains tonight, it won’t bother us.”
“Is it going to rain tonight?”
Can Mo glanced at the gloomy sky and said, “There’s a possibility of rain, but where we are going, even if it does rain, we won’t get wet.”
“That’s great, I’ve been starving for ages.”
Ye Chen retorted, “How can you eat amidst this stench!”
That was Ling’er’s statement at noon. But now, Ling’er seemed to have put aside her qualms as her stomach growled with hunger.
“You all go up front, I’ll finish up here and catch up as quickly as I can,” Can Mo said.
Hearing this, Ye Chen nodded and said, “Then everything’s on you,” and headed up front.
There was indeed a cliff, which made Ye Chen ecstatic.
Just before dawn, there came a few agonizing screams that woke Ye Chen up. Ling’er murmured, “What happened? Did we encounter a monster?”
“It seems like it came from the forest. Possibly somebody got caught in our traps,” Li Mo said.
Ye Chen asked, “It’s not one of ours, is it?”
“I’ve sent someone to check. We’ll find out soon if it is one of ours.”
Preparations began for breakfast. After a night’s rest, Ye Chen felt revitalized, no longer as weary as the previous day.
It rained a little last night. Though not heavy, the forest was moist as there was no wind. Even with a bit of rain, the humidity in the dense forest wouldn’t evaporate in a day.
Soon, someone ran back to Can Mo and reported, “It’s not one of ours.”
“Is it one of the Four Evils?” Can Mo inquired.
“Yes.”
“So, they’ve reached the trap area?”
The disciple nodded in acknowledgment.
“They got here so quickly. I’m surprised they didn’t need to sleep,” Ye Chen said astonished. He then murmured, “I didn’t expect Yang Jing to attract them so much.”
“Maybe they are planning to ambush us, surround us,” Ling’er suggested.
The disciple reported, “But it’s not the entire crew. I counted about a hundred.”
“Look like they dispatched a group with swift movements over here,” guessed Can Mo.
“They are not fools after all. They want to keep us at bay with a section of their people,” speculated Ye Chen.
“Luckily, we have already set up traps,” Li Mo pointed out.
“Traps are not infallible, they can only hold them off for a while,” Can Mo warned.
Ye Chen advised, “Let’s eat quickly and leave this place soon. It’s not safe to stay here any longer.”
Can Mo asked, “Should we leave a few to hold them back?”
“For now, we should not split up. We are already outnumbered by them,” Ye Chen promptly dismissed the idea.
Ling’er retorted, “See, I told you to split and take Yang Jing away. But you wouldn’t listen to me.”
“Alright, alright, you’re the wise one, happy now?” Ye Chen said mockingly.
“It’s not about being smart, that’s simply what you should have done.”
“What if they discover the few we sent with Yang Jing?”
“Always worrying about this and that. Just stay here and wait for them to surround us.”
“I’d be delighted to do so. I’m the boss here,” Ye Chen declared.
“You irresponsible person, dragging us to this godforsaken place. You think this can save us? They’ve caught up with us already!” Wei Yiling had started complaining.
“I see, I see. I’ve brought this upon you, maybe now I should just sell you to a brothel,” Ye Chen replied sarcastically.
“Let’s do this. I’ll go scout up ahead and give them a little lesson,” Li Mo proposed.
Ye Chen thought for a while, not having a better plan, he agreed, “Alright, but make sure you return soon. You have four hours. After four hours, we are leaving.”
With over a hundred people, Li Mo headed out to the back.
As Ye Chen gnawed on a roasted chicken leg, he moved to where Yang Jing was.
Yang Jing was unnaturally calm, seemingly foreseeing this development. He seemed quite relaxed, despite the commotion outside.
Ye Chen glanced at Yang Jing, squatted down, and asked, “Can we have a serious talk?”
Yang Jing knew that the youngster talking to him was their leader, but he had no idea who he was and why even Can Mo listened to him. He had never heard of Wei Sisan having such an influential follower.
“About what?” asked Yang Jing.
“All the gold and silver treasures you have.”
A kick came from behind, “Ah….” and almost toppled Ye Chen over. He turned back and shouted, “Hey girl, what are you trying to do?”
“And what are you trying to do?”
