To cause such distress to a royal like Janice over a mere lost ring suggested that the Duke's house was more powerful than hers, or perhaps there was more to the story—something she didn't feel comfortable sharing with Mandy, a mortal.

Had Ace retained the ring and attempted to sell it elsewhere, the buyers might not have been as benevolent as Janice and Delores.
