This Lich Requests More Remuneration

Chapter 75 - 75 75 Self-Destruct

?Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Self-Destruct Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Self-Destruct Amberser never intended to follow the footsteps of Alchemy City right from the start.

Knowing that the opponent intended to harm, how could he possibly walk into their trap? The Life Casket was just one of the means to save his own life, and even this Lich body wasn’t something to be easily discarded.

So, after deceiving Gustavo Flint, he took decisive action.

The Fireball Technique is a spell that the majority of spellcasters can master, with the advantages of fast casting speed, great power, wide range, low consumption, high success rate, and so on.

The widely known Three Fireball Cult preaches that without the blessing of innate talents or the assistance of other potions and equipment, being able to conjure three fireballs within six seconds is the lowest standard for admission.

Though it may seem like a low requirement, the Triple Fireballs are enough to kill most creatures in the world. Without preparation, even Legendary beings must suffer severe injuries from the blasts.

When Amberser conjured three fireballs, the large Teleportation Circle room turned into a sea of fire, and all three alchemists and the guarding Magipuppet Automatons were blown to pieces.

Only one lucky individual seemed to have defensive magic equipment on, as he deployed a Shield the moment the fireballs exploded, barely escaping disaster.

But his fate was even more tragic, because Amberser had already pulled out a rapid-firing Magic-guide Rifle and emptied the magazine at him.

The Magic Shield shattered instantly, and bullets burrowed into his flesh, then grew into a massive bone coral. Shreds of flesh dangled from the bone coral, presenting a sight that was bloody and cruel, yet with a strangely eerie beauty.

“The Bone Proliferation Virus is really badass, I truly admire you alchemist lunatics.”

Amberser put away the Magic-guide Rifle and cast the Levitation Spell, flying away from the inferno.

He had just obtained the information he wanted from the documents and had almost figured out what the Wishing Ritual was all about.

His previous conjecture was slightly off, these alchemists hadn’t failed in their wishes, nor was it a lack of detail or clarity during the wishing. The real reason for all this trouble was that they hadn’t started wishing yet.

The entire ritual magic was still in the “preparation” phase and hadn’t reached the stage where wishes could be made.

To put it simply, the offerings were insufficient.

There were two items missing, one of which was Amberser, a Legendary sacrifice, which could provide the last bit of momentum needed to kickstart the prepared Wishing Machine. Gustavo Flint’s task was probably to lead Amberser into the ritual circle and deceive him into becoming the offering.

He just didn’t anticipate that Amberser would escape the moment of teleportation and then begin his revenge.

“Greedy, far too greedy. Alchemy City isn’t without its own Legendaries, yet you insist on sending others to their death rather than sacrificing yourselves for your ideals. If you had jumped in yourselves, perhaps you would have succeeded. Serves you right for failing.”

As Amberser mused, he began to summon Skeleton servants.

The dead alchemists provided just the right corpses, and soon, several Alien Skeletons appeared beside Amberser.

Kazik Type 6, a highly evolved version.

Not only was the design further optimized, resembling a mantis, but it also included the effect of brief invisibility.

Amberser led these Alien Skeletons and fought his way out from the Council tower.

He didn’t intend to flee; on the contrary, Amberser also wanted to head to the sewers.

Fortune favors the bold; the Wishing Ritual was nearly complete. Just one more push and it would be time to start the wishes. And by then, who would be the one making the wish was still up in the air.

Before entering the sewers, though, he needed to find the second key item missing from the ritual.

Then, whether or not the ritual could be completed would be up to Amberser to decide.

A Legendary Lich launching a sudden ambush threw the group of alchemists into complete disarray.

Amberser burst out of the Teleportation Circle room, killing alchemists on his way down. Faced with such rapid slaughter, the countless Magipuppet Automatons couldn’t stop Amberser and his Skeletons capable of stealth in the confined indoor spaces.

Just as he was about to cut through the tower, a massive, two to three meters tall Magipuppet Automaton suddenly appeared.

An alchemist in a red robe sat on the shoulder of the Automaton, speaking in a disdainful tone, “I knew Flint was useless, but I didn’t expect him to be this incompetent, incapable of even luring you to the sewer. Tell me, when did you start to sense something was amiss?”

John Dipel, the second seat of the Alchemist Council, the one who had belittled Gustavo Flint as worthless during the previous secret meeting.

Amberser didn’t recognize this person. He smiled faintly at him, as if about to speak.

But in the next second, a series of sparks lit up on the large Automaton.

The mantis-like Skeletons flickered in and out of visibility on the Automaton’s body, almost climbing onto Dipel. Amberser didn’t pause; his Fireball Technique was ready, and he hurled it at the man.

As the pincer attack closed in, ready to finish off John Dipel, who would have thought that the magipuppet automaton would shudder, a semi-transparent force field unfolded, not only knocking away those invisible skeletons but also perfectly blocking the fireball technique.

Amberser rather regretfully said, “An improved magic shield, and it’s installed on a magipuppet automaton, the technology is pretty good.”

John Dipel seemed very dissatisfied that Amberser had acted without any greeting, angrily saying, “Uncultured lich, can’t you even talk?”

Amberser shrugged his shoulders and said to the alchemist, “Do you prefer to pray before a meal? Sorry, that isn’t my custom.”

John Dipel instantly understood the mockery and his eyes widened in anger.

As the second seat of the Alchemist Council, it had been many years since he had encountered someone who was disrespectful to him.

“I’ll turn your bones into specimens!”

John Dipel angrily slapped the magipuppet automaton he was sitting on, and the giant metal robot raised its cannon arm toward Amberser.

Amberser didn’t have the time for trash talk anymore, as several shells were shot from the cannon toward him.

This was not the cheap stuff Amberser had made himself; each shell was filled with alchemical potion, the power of the explosions on par with, if not stronger than, the fireball technique.

This was a firepower-enhanced magipuppet automaton; Amberser once very much wanted to get one for himself, and this one in front of him seemed to be a strengthened version.

Amberser had to use Traceless Step to teleport and avoid the barrage, with shells landing where he had just been, causing violent explosions that left big craters in the ground. Barely having dodged one calamity, he casually threw a bolt of lightning at the magipuppet automaton.

The lightning current was weakened by the shield, but still, a considerable amount of magic energy hit the magipuppet automaton. Sparks flew as the automaton’s arm went limp, seemingly damaged.

Unfortunately for Amberser, he hardly had time to be pleased before John Dipel slapped the magipuppet again. The damaged area lit up with a golden glow and seemed to be repaired on the spot.

“Weak divine power…your Legendary Grace is fixing appliances?” Amberser burst into laughter, “Hahaha, you’re even weaker than I am.”

“Is that so? Let me show you the power of Magic Construct Studies.”

At John Dipel’s command, the magipuppet automaton’s legs erupted with clouds of steam and charged at Amberser with incredible speed.

As Amberser was about to use Traceless Step again to evade, he suddenly felt his body stiffen.

A blinding red glow shone from the ring on John Dipel’s hand, the Monster Binding Spell had taken effect on Amberser.

Unable to dodge, Amberser’s fragile body couldn’t withstand the collision with the multi-ton machine robot. With a crisp snap, Amberser’s skeletal body shattered directly, bones scattering everywhere.

But John Dipel did not show a look of joy, because the moment he shattered Amberser’s body, he did not feel the latter’s Soul Fire extinguish.

“Is this a Feign Death Spell?! Can undead use that too?”

Amberser wasn’t about to answer. With the original Monster Binding Spell gone, the bones started to pull back together, reassembling into their original form.

John Dipel wanted to repeat the process, but suddenly heard an odd noise. His magipuppet automaton seemed to malfunction, the engine vibrating violently.

John Dipel had no choice but to use his Legendary Power again, regardless of the problem, as long as it was a magipuppet automaton he had created, he could fix it instantly.

The engine recovered its function, ready to re-engage in battle, but this time just as it lifted its leg, a screw popped out of the foot of the magipuppet automaton, throwing it off balance.

“What’s happening?!” John Dipel was taken aback, but then realized, “Oh no, it’s the power of the School of Prophecy, he’s altering my future!”

Mages from the School of Prophecy were rare, scarcely seen even in the Nine Great Kingdoms, and John Dipel had not anticipated their ability to be so terrifying, directly changing “might malfunction” into “will definitely malfunction.”

The magipuppet automaton kept ejecting screws and springs, clinking as if it were about to fall apart at any moment, and John Dipel had to keep fixing it, the two seeming to be locked in a war of attrition.

But John Dipel did not have the patience to compete with Amberser in magical power, he took out something resembling a remote control and pressed it, and hundreds of magipuppet automatons surrounded from all directions.

John Dipel smugly said to Amberser, “I’d like to see how many futures you can replace.”

Amberser sighed, so it’s true you shouldn’t fight on a spellcaster’s turf, the home-field advantage is too great.

“Surrender, you’ve already lost,” John Dipel threatened.

But Amberser was far from panicked, crossing his arms and saying to John Dipel, “Are you stupid? I’m a lich.”

A massive surge of dark magic power erupted from Amberser’s body, flooding hundreds of meters around like a tidal wave.

Amberser chose to self-destruct.
