Chapter 79 - 79 79 Naomis Confusion
?Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Naomi’s Confusion Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Naomi’s Confusion Alchemy City was permeated with a sense of an impending storm, and Naomi Watts couldn’t understand why her kin would want to stay in such a place.
She had been wrong before, having believed in the so-called prophecy and ventured alone into the sewers of Alchemy City, which nearly cost her people their lives.
Naomi also didn’t understand why that prophecy had such a strong allure, compelling her to recklessly enter despite the danger.
Though she had made a mistake, she had rescued them all without regard for her own safety.
Even if she was to be punished, Naomi accepted it, but why did it seem like everyone had suddenly changed?
The Druid tribe had once given Naomi a sense of warmth, and although she was an orphan, the Druid who adopted her had always treated her with great affection.
But now… Naomi looked around, and in the vast hotel lobby, there were only Druids, with her kin seemingly watching her, whether intentionally or not.
As soon as Naomi stood up from her chair, all eyes were on her, and someone loudly asked what she was going to do. She could only casually say she was going to pour herself a glass of water, but her heart was already in a panic.
This intense feeling of being monitored made her desperately want to flee this place.
Naomi thought that there must be something wrong with her people, quite possibly still under the influence of the witch’s Illusion Realm, and not yet fully recovered.
But what could she do about it?
In Alchemy City, she didn’t know anyone, and had no idea who to ask for help.
For some reason, the image of Amberser appeared in Naomi’s mind. Although the Lich was terrifying, he seemed reliable. He could have killed all the Druids and taken the Divine Idol from her, but in the end, he had kept his promise, ensuring all Druids exited the sewers and didn’t take the precious Divine Idol with him.
Naomi couldn’t help thinking, if she gave him another commission, could she figure out the reason behind her kin’s strange behavior?
Thoughts of this possibility tempted her.
She was never the type to stay out of trouble; otherwise, she wouldn’t have ventured into the sewers alone.
Now with the thought of running away, she began scanning her surroundings, looking for an opportunity to escape.
“There’s a window over there. If I transform into a cat, I could squeeze through the gap. Outside there’s an alley, and after I run out and turn a corner, I could hide!”
Seeing a high chance of success in this plan, Naomi slowly made her way there under the pretext of fetching water.
But just as she was about to reach the window, a loud shout came from behind: “Naomi, what are you doing?!”
Naomi was startled, and she dropped the glass in her hand.
The oak cup fell to the floor with a dull thud, sounding like a hammer blow to Naomi’s head.
Naomi turned around to face Van Jones, the respectable elderly Druid, who was usually quite gentle. Why had he suddenly become so fierce? His gaze was as if he wanted to kill her.
Naomi stammered, “Uncle Jones, what’s wrong? I haven’t done anything!”
Van Jones walked up to Naomi, grabbed her wrist, and said in a cold tone, “I have already sensed the magic fluctuation in you; you’re thinking of transforming and running away, do you think I don’t know?”
Naomi felt a sharp pain in her wrist. They were truly monitoring her every move.
Naomi struggled to break free from Van Jones’s grip, saying agitatedly, “I want to ask what you’re doing? Why are you watching me as if I were a criminal? If you think I was wrong last time, just say it. Whatever the punishment, I’m willing to accept it. What is this all about?”
Naomi’s words caused many Druids to make peculiar faces, and facing the girl’s pure gaze, some even turned away, unable to meet her eyes.
But Van Jones showed no sign of shame, nor did he intend to explain, only warning Naomi, “Don’t even think of running away. Just stay here, and soon you’ll understand everything.”
Although Naomi was dissatisfied, Van Jones was a respected elder who had watched her grow up. Seeing him speak so seriously, she could only suppress her grievances and sit back down grumpily mumbling, “I don’t want to run away. After we return, I’ll complain to the Grand Druid! Unless you apologize sincerely, I will never forgive you!”
Hearing the young girl’s words, someone finally couldn’t resist and went to whisper to Van Jones, “Is it really okay for us to do this? After all, Naomi grew up with us, and she is also a Druid.”
Van Jones affirmed resolutely, “She isn’t. From the start, she has been nothing but a trade. Haven’t you all known this very clearly? Have you forgotten after all these years?”
The Druid’s expression darkened, but he countered, “But Naomi is innocent, she knows nothing!”
Van Jones, angered, punched his comrade, knocking him to the ground, then loudly declared, “Balance is but an Illusion Realm. Wherever mortals tread, nature suffers. Unity is a lie; mortals only wish to subdue beasts and burn the wilderness. We are the thunder, we are the storm, eradicating ignorant mortals to clear a pure world for new life! Do you intend to break this oath?!”
The Druid knocked to the ground heard these fierce oaths and finally bowed his head, no longer daring to speak.
Only Naomi watched this scene, clueless as to what was going on.
“Uncle Jones, have you lost your mind? What are you doing?”
The little girl walked to the side of the Druid who had been knocked down, helped him up, and asked with concern, “Are you alright? I’ll heal you.”
However, not only did the Druid not appreciate it, but he also harshly pushed her to the ground.
The Druid said viciously to Naomi, “I don’t need your concern! Stay away from me!”
The girl looked at her clansmen with a shocked face, while the Druids beside her merely watched with cold eyes, and nobody opened their mouths to comfort her.
Naomi’s eyes instantly reddened, she really didn’t understand what had happened—why had she suddenly become hated by everyone?
Tears fell from her eyes, and Naomi said with a choked voice, “I… I know I ran around earlier and put you all in danger, I know I was wrong, I’m sorry. Please forgive me, I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
But no matter how much she apologized, these once close relatives remained unmoved, merely staring at her with cold eyes as if afraid she would run away.
Naomi sat helplessly on the ground, unaware of what had happened or what she should do.
Was this truly the influence of the Witch’s Illusion Realm, or had they never truly accepted her? What exactly was she waiting for, trapped here?
Just as Naomi fell into despair, the inn’s door was suddenly opened, and a man and a woman walked in side by side.
Naomi recognized the young man at a glance and said excitedly, “It’s you! Mr. Lich!”
Amberser smiled at the little girl and said, “We meet again. Why are you crying? Could it be that you’ve guessed that you’ll have to give me money again?”
“Huh? What are you talking about?” Naomi was taken aback by Amberser’s words, holding back her tears.
Amberser did not continue to explain but turned to look at the Druids with their odd expressions and then said, “I saved you last time, and you should have left. But instead, you chose to stay here and collaborate with those lunatics, courting death—no one else to blame.”
Without another word, Van Jones roared and his body swelled, transforming into a grey bear.
The other Druids did the same, those who could transform did so, while those who could cast spells did so.
Suddenly, several magic vines whipped towards Amberser, and two crows along with three wolves lunged at him as well.
But such fierce attacks couldn’t harm Amberser in the least, as the Undead Queen standing next to him had already made her move.
Dark green energy lit up between her fingers, rippling like water, withering life wherever it touched.
This was the most basic Necromancy Spell, Touch of Frost, causing Dark Corrosive Energy damage to living targets.
In the hands of other Necromancers, it was at most a trick, but when Withered Rose used this fundamental Necromancy Spell, it was like a high-tier spell, not only transforming the single-target spell into an area of effect but also multiplying its power beyond measure.
The magic vines crumbled to ash as soon as they touched the Dark Corrosive Energy. The Druids who had turned into beasts wailed under the dark green light, their transformation effects were shattered in a blink of an eye, reverting them to human form, then quickly turning into withered corpses.
Van Jones had never imagined his clansmen would fall so easily. He hastily tried to take out the Sylvanas Statue, wanting to use the Deity’s power to counter the terrible Necromancy Spell.
But as soon as this thought came to him, he felt his body stiffen.
The bear’s body thudded to the ground, its magic completely out of control, forcing him back into human form.
However, this was only the beginning.
Van Jones found that his skin was turning grey at a visible rate, without pain, only numbness. It was as if his body’s cells were dying off, and he was powerless to stop it.
A faint smell of decay emerged from his body, then entered his own nostrils.
Van Jones finally realized that he was transforming into an Undead.
Never had he heard of a spell that could turn living beings directly into Undead. Was this Lich so terrifying?
Van Jones looked towards Amberser in utter terror, his mouth opened as if wanting to say something, but ultimately, not a word came out. His body was mostly undead now, his lifeless lungs could not expel air, and his stiffened neck could not vibrate the vocal cords. In the end, all he could do was open his mouth, and then his entire being turned a pale shade of grey.
Naomi watched the scene before her in shock. Her clan members had perished in an instant, and she was so taken aback that she didn’t have the strength to stand, overwhelmed with fear and confusion.
Amberser walked over to Naomi and said to her, “The truth is harsh; you should take a nap first.”
Amberser cast a spell of light that landed on Naomi, sending the poor Druid Girl into a deep sleep.
After completing all these actions, Amberser finally said to Withered Rose, “Alright, now that we have the initiative, it’s time to talk to that group of Alchemists.”
