Chapter 1156: Conspiracy

"Hand over your money!"

"Do you want to die, eh!? Is that it!?"

"Kill one of them so they would understand how serious this is!"

The bandits' threats grew wilder with each flap of their lips, and yet Riley hasn't really made a move at all. He waited for them to actually lunge at him or the carriage, but they weren't doing it at all.

They were just glaring at him and waving their weapons around—and for Riley, that could really only mean one thing, these people weren't prepared to kill at all.

"What… what do we do…!?" The young boy in the carriage started to tremble. But still, he stuck out his arms from the window and started tapping Riley on the shoulder, "You're… you're a warrior, right? Only warriors would travel alone on this kind of road. Can you… can you defeat them?"

"Young Master!" The boy's butler quickly pulled him inside before closing the window. Their voices, however, still seeped out as everyone could hear them talking, "We need to leave! These bandits will kill us—we should abandon the carriage and run home as soon as the chaos ensues."

"What…?" The boy whispered loudly, "But our gifts for Princess Lucia are here! We can't just leave it here, this is supposed to be dowry and—"

"No treasure is worth your life, Young Master." The butler insisted, "And you're right, that white man out there that looks like a ghost is a warrior, I could feel it. Once they start fighting, we'll run—and if the warrior manages to win, then he will probably take this carriage to the city and we'll report him to the guards for stealing it from us."

"Huh…?" The young master sounded confused, "But why would we report him if—!?"

And before the young master could finish his words, a loud snap cracked in the air as they saw the carriage's window explode inside… followed by a thud as the head of what they could only assume to belong from one of the bandits rolled in front of their feet.

"E…Eep!" And surprisingly, it was the butler who quickly rushed out of the carriage. As for the young master, he just stared at the head for a few seconds; his brows slightly lowering. But after a few more moments, he also rushed out of the carriage—now suddenly carrying the same disgust and panic his butler held.

The head was just a taste, however, as what awaited the two outside was something they never really expected—they only talked for a moment. Right from the butler closed the window, it should have only been a moment.

And yet right now, outside the carriage, lay the corpses of all the bandits who were previously threatening to kill them. No, not corpses.

Aside from one headless corpse, the rest of them were still alive—unfortunately for them. Their bodies were twisted, their bones piercing out from their flesh. One of them even had his mouth filled with the blades… but they were all still alive.

As for Riley, well, blood was flowing down from his nose. It happened when he decapitated the first bandit.

He was slightly confused at this. He already knew that this world was as black and white as it could be, and yet it was punishing him for killing a bandit?

Or perhaps because the bandit was human and the goblins were not?

Could it be that whatever governing god was overseeing this dimension, it only treats monsters as pure evil, and not men?

If so… then it was a stupid god.

"You… you saved us!"

"Young master!" The butler wanted to grab his young master. But alas, the strength of his legs has not returned yet from witnessing such a horrible sight. The only thing he could really do was reach out and watch as his young master approached Riley.

"What… what's your name, Warrior!?" The young boy's eyes glistened as he looked at Riley, and not because Riley was literally glowing from having the sun reflected on his white silhouette, "My… my name is Louis Zimmer! 7th son of the Count of Zimmer!"

"Louis Zimmer, hm?" A hint of a smile crawled on Riley's face as he stared at Louis, "Then, my name is Riley Ross, my titles do not matter in this place."

"How… how did you do all of this?" Louis glanced back at the bandits, who were still groaning and grunting; their life, only inches away from withering, "And… and so fast! You… are you a hero?"

"Oh?" Riley tilted his head to the side, "How did you know that!?"

"W…wait, you are!?" A gasp escaped Louis's lips. There was something else in that gasp, however—and Riley noticed it quite well. Although Louis's face showed nothing but excitement, Riley noticed the… deep bitterness that was hiding within the cracks of his smile, "That's…

…that's so amazing!"

"It is, is it not?" Riley breathed out, placing his hands behind his waist as he started walking away, "Then if you would excuse me, Sir Louis—I would like to reach this city you were speaking of before the sun sets."

"You… should come with us!" Louis grabbed Riley's sleeves, "We're going in the same direction anyway, I… I would like to hear more of your stories, Hero!"

"I do not really have any stories in this world just yet." Riley looked Louis in the eyes, "Unlike you, I just got here."

"You… just got here?" Louis blinked a couple of times in confusion, "What do you mean by that? You—"

"Young Master!" And finally, the butler regained enough of his strength, pulling Louis away from Riley, "If… if the stranger doesn't want to come with us, then let him be! He is—"

"By the way, I found this in one of the bandit's pockets." And before the butler could drag Louis back into the carriage, Riley stretched out his hand toward the young master.

"What's that…?" The young master easily freed himself from the butler's grasp as he rushed back to Riley, "A letter…?"

"Young master!?" And as soon as the butler saw the thing in Louis's hands, he quickly ran toward him… only to accidentally trip on nothing at all, "W… wait! Don't read—"

"This… Felix." Louis's brows began to lower as he read the content of the letter, "...Isn't this your handwriting?"
