?Chapter 411: 397. Why is it You Again (3)_1 Chapter 411: 397. Why is it You Again (3)_1 Julie leaned in Count Durand’s arms, reaching out toward Lola.

“Lola, come here.”

Observing her blood-streaked hand, Lola stumbled over.

She grabbed Julie’s hand, crying out, “Mommy, why did you block the knife for that woman, Jian Qing? I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

Quan Jingwu’s purple eyes overflowed with murderous intent. If it weren’t for Jian Qing, he might have strangled Lola there and then.

Julie tightly gripped Lola’s hand, her voice weak as she said, “Lola, Mommy knows you didn’t do it on purpose. Promise Mommy you won’t do foolish things anymore.”

Lola’s tears flowed freely, “Mommy, hold on, the doctor will be here soon.”

Julie shook her head, smiling bitterly, “It’s no use, it’s too late.”

All of this was self-inflicted. If she hadn’t indulged Lola in using aphrodisiac, things might not have escalated to this point.

All she could say was that this was fate.

She turned to look at Jian Qing, her eyes pleading, “Miss Jian, I am using my life to atone for Lola’s mistake. She has also been punished. Could you—for the sake of a mother’s request—spare her?”

Jian Qing was the daughter of Mo Xiao and the bride-to-be of Quan Jingwu; with these two identities alone, Lola had made a grave mistake. There was no way she could escape Mo Xiao and Quan Jingwu’s pursuit.

Julie could see that Mo Xiao and Quan Jingwu listened to Jian Qing. She also knew that if she wanted them to let Lola go, her only chance was to beg Jian Qing.

Meeting Julie’s pleading gaze, Jian Qing was reminded of her own mother.

“Qingqing, you don’t need to be kind to these people,” Mo Xiao warned, his voice cold as he looked at Julie’s group.

If anyone dared to harm his daughter, there was no need to show mercy.

“Mo Xiao, even if you don’t love me. How can you be so cruel to me? Where did I go wrong? Tell me,” Lola, hearing Mo Xiao’s words, again became agitated, her eyes full of hatred as she glared at him.

Mo Xiao scoffed, “I won’t let anyone off who hurts my daughter.”

Lola stepped back involuntarily, her face full of sarcasm, “You’re calling her your daughter now? Do you really expect me to believe that? She has the last name Jian, and you have the last name Mo. How could she possibly be your daughter?”

This question was one that everybody present was keen to understand.

Jian Qing was rumored to be the illegitimate daughter of An Chong. How did she suddenly become his daughter?

Moreover, wasn’t it clear to everyone in Beijing that he, An Zhe, had been unmarried for many years? Where could he possibly have gotten such a grown-up daughter from?

“My daughter carries the surname of my wife. Do you have a problem with that?” Mo Xiao glared at her coldly, his voice frosty.

Lola countered, “That’s impossible. Everyone here knows that you’ve never been married before. How could you possibly have a wife?”

Jian Qing left Quan Jingwu’s embrace and moved to Mo Xiao’s side.

She cast a glance around the room, finally resting her eyes on Lola, speaking calmly, “Whether you believe it or not, we are father and daughter. If you want a copy of the paternity test report, I can provide you with one.”

At this point, even the doubtful people had no other choice but to accept the truth.

Jian Qing turned and stared at Count Durand, speaking in a harsh tone, “Take good care of your daughter. If she dares to appear in front me again, I can’t guarantee that she’ll be able to walk away.”

Upon hearing this, Julie sighed with relief, her resentment towards Jian Qing lifting.

“Thank you!” Her breathing gradually weakened.

“Qingqing, she…” Mo Xiao was clearly reluctant to let Lola go.

Jian Qing looked up at him, saying, “Dad, let’s go home. I’m hungry.”

Mo Xiao hesitated for a moment, but then nodded.

She then turned to look at Lola, her voice cold, “You had better remember this well. Your life was bought with your mother’s.”

Finished speaking, she took Quan Jingwu’s hand, “Xiaojing, let’s go home.”

Quan Jingwu nodded and swept her back up into his arms.

As soon as Quan Jingwu and his company left, everyone else hastily followed suit.

Chu Yihen was the last to leave, staring at the pathetic sight of the Durand family; a touch of coldness flashed in his eyes.

“Count Durand, I think our partnership should come to an end,” he announced before turning to leave without a backward glance.

Before long, the vast banquet hall was left with just the three of them.

“Reed, don’t blame Lola. Treat her well for me. That’s my final wish,” Julie pleaded, glancing at Lola.

She knew that this incident had completely tarnished the reputation of the Durand family. If she were to pass away, her husband was likely to resent Lola.

Hearing Julie’s words, Lola crawled over and pleaded, “Mommy, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have hurt you. Please don’t leave me.”

“Lola, it’s too late. Mommy can’t hang on much longer. You have to promise me not to provoke Jian Qing anymore. You can’t win against her,” Julie said, her eyes half-closed, her body trembling from the pain of her wound.

“After what she’s done to me, I cannot let her off the hook. I refuse,” Lola sobbed, burying her face in her hands.

Count Durand’s expression was livid; he swung his hand at Lola.

“Look at the mess you’ve made, you imbecile!”

Lola was knocked to the ground, and Julie couldn’t bear to look.

“Reed, that’s enough. No more hitting,” she pleaded while trying to hold his hand. Her consciousness was gradually fading.

Seeing Julie’s eyes shut, Count Durand panicked. “Julie, you can’t sleep. Just hang in there a little longer.”

“I… I can’t hold on anymore, Reed. No matter how much Lola was at fault, on my behalf, could you be kinder to her?”

As the last word fell from her lips, her grip on his hand loosened and her eyelids gradually closed. Breathing came to a halt.

“Julie!”

Count Durand’s tears fell, crying out in grief.

Lola watched Julie’s pallid face, speechless.

“Ah–”
She screamed at the ceiling, tears streaming from her eyes.

Shijin Haoting
Jian Qing, freshly showered, was snuggled up on the couch eating breakfast prepared by Quan Jingwu.

Mid-meal, a knock echoed from the door.

Quan Jingwu stopped her from rising and went to open the door himself.

Jian Qing curled her eyebrows amusingly, continuing to watch her TV show.

As the door opened, upon seeing the visitor, Quan Jingwu immediately felt the urge to close it again.

Standing outside the door was Mo Xiao, who had gone home for a quick wash and change of clothes.

After his shower, he had hurried straight over.

Seeing that the door was opened by him, Mo Xiao’s fatherly smile instantly disappeared.

“Why is it you again?”

Quan Jingwu looked at him indifferently. He wanted to ask the same question.

Why was he here again?

“Why are you blocking my way?” Mo Xiao asked, staring at Quan Jingwu, who was standing at the doorway.

Quan Jingwu remained silent, turning around to give him a cold shoulder.

A shadow fell over Mo Xiao’s handsome face, and he stepped inside.

What kind of lousy son-in-law is this? He had no manners at all.
