?Chapter 477: 463, Eavesdropping on Conversation (2)_1 Chapter 477: 463, Eavesdropping on Conversation (2)_1 Quan Jingwu nodded before turning towards Fu Heng, “How long will it take to develop a cure for the virus?”
“Without the virus agent, it will be difficult to develop an antidote under these circumstances. We can’t just rush into using any drug,” Fu Heng replied, looking troubled.
More importantly, viral agents weren’t his area of expertise.
From the corner of his eye, Quan Jingwu saw a stealthy gaze spying from the window, which made his eyes frost over, “Fu Heng!”
Pondering the issue of the viral agent, Fu Heng was startled out of his thoughts by Quan Jingwu’s call. Quan Jingwu silently gestured him, subtly sweeping his gaze towards the window.
Fu Heng’s heart sank as he swiftly understood his aim.
He discreetly left via the side door, while Quan Yimo and others, though puzzled by his actions, did not interrupt.
Soon after, a series of screams came from outside.
“Ah–”
“It hurts so bad, what are you trying to do?” the man yelped in pain.
The faces of Quan Yimo and others shifted subtly, realizing someone was eavesdropping.
Members of the Falcon Team rushed out, while Fu Heng came back in, dragging a man along with him.
“Close all the doors and windows,” commanded Quan Yimo.
Once everyone made sure all entrances are secured, Fu Heng carelessly threw the man to the ground.
The corpulent man rolled on the floor a couple of times, letting out yelps of pain.
The middle-aged man stared at everyone fiercely while holding his bruised cheek, pounded by Fu Heng, “Don’t think just because you’re soldiers, you can act as you please. I’m the mayor of this place. What I say goes here.”
Everyone assessed the middle-aged man, his portly figure standing in stark contrast to the emaciated refugees in the town.
At a glance, it was clear he was no good.
Fu Heng kicked at his knee, causing the man to fall to his knees with his pudgy face instantly twisted in agony.
“Mayor?” Fu Heng stepped on his leg, preventing him from rising, “We’ve never seen you around. How do we know you’re telling the truth?”
The middle-aged man glared at Fu Heng with red, angry eyes, “If you don’t believe me, you can ask people in the town. You barged into our town, causing havoc and unrest. Perhaps you’re the ones with bad intentions.”
Fu Heng scoffed, “What were you doing by the window just now? Who gave you the guts to eavesdrop on our conversation, hmm?”
He pressed his foot down harder on the man’s leg, causing him to grimace in pain.
“Let me go, let me go.”
Just as the man was about to struggle, he was subdued by a gun pressed against his forehead.
“Sit still, if you dare move, bullets don’t discriminate,” Fu Heng threatened.
“I was simply passing by when you dragged me in. I didn’t eavesdrop on your conversation,” the middle-aged man raised both hands in surrender, sweat dripping from his forehead.
“Charlie, sir, do you recognize this man?” Qiao Yu had brought in elderly Charlie at some point.
Charlie looked at the man kneeling on the ground, fear flashed in his eyes as he instinctively hid behind Qiao Yu.
“Charlie, tell them I’m the mayor of this town, quickly,” the middle-aged man commanded, despite his painful expression.
“Don’t worry, Charlie. We’re all here; he can’t harm you. Just speak the truth,” Qiao Yu comforted.
Charlie shot the middle-aged man a complicated look before he stuttered, “He is indeed the mayor of our town.”
“You heard him, I’m the mayor. Let me go now,” a hint of smug triumph flashed across the middle-aged man’s face.
Charlie collapsed to the ground, pleading, “Please, don’t let him go. He’s a beast, a bane of our town.”
Everyone looked at each other. Qiao Yu helped Charlie up, “Sir Charlie, what else do you know? Whatever he did to your town, don’t hesitate to tell us.”
“My son was killed because of him. He not only confiscated the food from the townsfolk but anyone who dared resist would be severely beaten up. Even the women in this town have fallen prey to him.” Thinking of his deceased son, Charlie burst into tears.
Upon hearing his words, Quan Yimo and the others grew stern, staring coldly at the middle-aged man.
“That’s nonsense. I didn’t do any of that. It was your son who brought it onto himself,” the middle-aged man retorted with a menacing glare.
“Don’t believe him. His old age has muddled his brain; don’t heed his accusations,” he added, a nervous flicker in his eyes.
Fu Heng furrowed his brows and slapped him.
“Slap–”
“You–” The man was stunned by the impact, and before he could say anything, Fu Heng’s hand came down again.
After the continuous slaps, Fu Heng didn’t hold back, leaving the middle-aged man with a stinging cheek and two teeth lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
“Ah–”
The middle-aged man covered his swollen cheek, his words garbled, “You madman…”
“Shut up!” Fu Heng hit the man’s head with the butt of his gun, “Babble again, and I’ll blow your brains out.”
At the sound of the gun’s trigger, the middle-aged man finally quieted down.
“Charlie, tell us all you know, rest assured, he won’t be the mayor of this town after today,” Qiao Yu reassured.
“I inadvertently saw him talking to a man in black but was too far away to hear what they were discussing,” Charlie added.
A man in black?
Everyone was instantly reminded of the men in black they had seen on the screen earlier. Qiao Yu brought the computer over to Charlie.
“Do you recognize any of these people?”
Charlie scrutinized the screen with his murky eyes. Suddenly, he pointed at the screen, excitement apparent in his voice, “Him. The one wearing a silver mask.”
Although it was rather dark that day, he remembered the silver mask quite clearly.
The mention of the “silver mask” had the middle-aged man visibly tense, a shiver running down his spine.
Quan Jingwu glanced at him, while a trace of amusement played on his lips.
“Charlie, are you sure it’s this man?” Qiao Yu asked for confirmation.
“Yes, I remember the mask very clearly,” Charlie said confidently.
“What mask, Charlie? Don’t talk nonsense,” the middle-aged man threatened through clenched teeth, unable to make significant movements due to the gun at his head.
“That’s right, I’ve seen the man with the silver mask visit his home,” Charlie added.
Upon hearing this, everyone’s gaze turned to the middle-aged man.
