Chapter 442: Leave Me Alone
Chapter 442: Leave Me Alone
Serena Scott, a mid-tier mage. She received an expulsion from her family and entered the adventurer’s guild five years ago.
Her future as a respected lady born from the Scott Duke Noble Family of the eastern kingdom was supposed to be so bright. Unfortunately, she offended someone she shouldn’t have offended.
As a result, her family disowned her and exiled her. Even her father ordered her personal servants to return to the family’s mansion, leaving her alone. She also held no money to support her life.
Due to relatively large debts, she had no other choice but to enter the world of adventure to escape the greater trouble. Thanks to the help given by the eastern kingdom’s prince, she could create a new identity for herself.
Years had passed since then, and the worldwide decisive battle was also over. She managed to join a nice guild party, living pretty well since then.
However, the cause still nestled like a nightmare. The fear kept hainting her almost every day. She would never forget the cause of her suffering, and she hoped they would never cross paths ever again. Luckily, the divine group disappeared in outer space five years ago, and that sent a bit of relief.
---
"Are you Serena?"
In the quiet solitude of a familiar street, amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, an unexpected encounter sent shivers down Serena’s spine.
She visited the holy central region’s capital city to obtain several rare items, but by a foul chance of luck, she met with someone who held the power to destroy her life with ease.
She would never forget the face of someone who ruined her life. Despite not being the same as Elysia in her memories, the image overlapped and caused her to see the other party as Elysia due to the resemblance.
Even though the other party changed one’s hair color to silver with predatory red eyes, and also a pair of striking black devil horns... she could recognize it after a few seconds, and the fear soon swallowed her whole.
"Serena, what’s wrong?" The archer lady approached from behind, feeling something was wrong because her cute guildmate remained silent, not moving with a pale face.
She looked aside and found a group of beautiful ladies, but she noticed two silver-haired devils confronted her guild party. Serena’s items were scattered on the ground, indicating a problem had just occurred.
"Are you okay? These are your things." Elysia used wind manipulation to pick up the dropped items and return them to Serena.
"You, you... ghost! What are you doing here?!" Serena stepped back and tripped, falling on her butt. She pointed at the silver-haired devil Elysia while stuttering and shaking. Truth or fake, she was so terrified to her core.
"What are we doing here? I guess, we wish to visit our friends and acquaintances?" Elysia looked at her sisters with an innocent expression.
"Stop your nonsense, devil! What are you planning in Aeddoterra City? Regardless of the permanent ceasefire, no devils are allowed to roam around as they please in the holy central region!" The fighter gentleman frowned, feeling these devil beauties came to this city with no good intentions. He resolved his determination to resist their charms, and he stood up straight to help his junior return to her feet.
"Huh? What’s with this persecution? First, you bumped into me, then blamed the devil for no reason. Even though the Emperor himself came here, he would never dare to speak to us like this." Sylvia crossed her arms, feeling dissatisfied.
"You, you... why do you keep bothering me? Can you please leave me alone! I’ve paid for all my mistakes. Please let me go..." Serena held her head and broke down hysterically.
"Hm?" Elysia questioned what happened to Serena. It was as if Serena was greatly traumatized, but she did nothing to Serena despite what this girl had done to her during her early magic academy experiences.
It was probably also because of her stupidity that would prioritized avoiding problems during her first ’thrown to otherworld’ experience, but Serena’s interference made her meet her good friend Evelyn.
"..." The other party members looked at each other because of Serena’s sudden outcry.
They knew their junior was traumatized by something and would occasionally be haunted by nightmares in her sleep. Unfortunately, Serena never spoke anything to them regarding the root of her problems.
What they knew was limited to her former noble status and expulsion from her family.
As for those devils... they couldn’t say they broke the rules. The other party was only two devils but escorted by several human experts.
Those ladies were probably the officers assigned to escort these devils during their visit to Aeddoterra City.
"Tsk." The swordman clicked his tongue as he couldn’t bear to see his cute junior was so frightened.
Serena probably once met these devils, and the other party was most likely the cause of her nightmare.
After measuring several things in mind, he stepped forward and took out a glove from his pocket. He aimed at the younger devil and threw the glove at her face.
"Shoo..." Yuuki blew a soft wind with her mouth, blowing the glove to land on Sylvia’s head.
"Hoo, what is the meaning of this? Are you challenging me, hoo-man?" Sylvia picked up the glove and squeezed it with a faint smirk on her face.
"I, Mason Jenkins, challenge you to a duel! If I win, I want you to never appear or disturb Lady Serena ever again." Mason declared his challenge firmly, despite feeling a bit nervous because his glove landed on the elder devil instead of the younger one.
"It’s rare for a random nobody to challenge me. You don’t even know us, but you make me look like a bully. What do I get if I win? Your worthless soul, or maybe your cheap possessions?" Sylvia looked down at the humans before her.
She couldn’t remember them, but Elysia seemed to know the girl named Serena. However, that girl was terrified, and she could guess this Serena did something unbecoming to Elysia in the past.
She tried to recall things related to Serena, but it would wait for later because she had to handle the sudden challenge.
"If I lose, I will kneel in apology and roll out." Mason stelled his decision, quite confident in his abilities as an advanced warrior.
"No, don’t do this. They are-" Serena grabbed her leader’s arm, pulling him back, but he was already determined.
"Heh~ I don’t need your worthless apology. If you lose, you need to use this name tag throughout your life." Sylvia took out a card and wrote ’simp edgelord’ big and clear.
"That’s fine with me. Four o’clock in the guild’s arena." Mason snorted sarcastically. He had nothing to lose on this bet as it was only a name tag.
"Leader Mason, you are really recklessly crazy. Please don’t cause more trouble for me. Please, or we will be doomed." Serena slumped to the ground as if her life had flown elsewhere, feeling like her future was already so bleak because she encountered Elysia once again.
"Rest assured, Lady Serena. You are our honorable junior. I will not allow you to be intimidated and humiliated by some devils." Mason reassured his cute junior with a bright smile.
"Yeah, that’s right. You are a true gentleman, Mason. Worry not, I will sponsor you in this duel with this strengthening potion."
"Yes, our leader is right. You don’t need to be afraid of those bullies because you have us, Serena. We’ll chase them away and make them no longer bother you."
"We will help you resolve your nightmare, Lady Serena. Our party is hard solid and growing famous as a unit thanks to you too."
The other party members also reassured Serena and were hostile to the two devils before them.
"Ellie, what really happened?" Erina pulled the hem of Elysia’s sleeve, feeling confused and surprised.
"We were once a classmate." Elysia scratched her head as she also felt astonished.
’Pfft, ahaha! What’s wrong with her? Her frightened expression is so cute. She snatched your academy privileges five years ago, but she says she had to pay for her mistake? We didn’t even do anything, but someone already punished her severely for good.’ Elena was laughing out loud in the Elysian Realm without restraint, unbecoming of a graceful lady.
"Hmm..." Erina stared at the rude group before her. Xentia and Mio also felt offended by the other party’s rudeness.
Elysia’s group and Serena’s group stared at each other like a clash was about to happen. Dozens of people who happened to be passing by had gathered, forming a circular crowd.
The store’s staff and city guards soon came to disperse the crowd and resolve the dispute.
The permanent truce between humans and devils had only been established for five years, and they didn’t want it to break out into a worse situation just because of a trivial matter that they didn’t even know about.
"That’s what they started. Don’t blame me if I beat them into a pulp during the duel. This is a sacred duel in human culture, right?" Sylvia explained a little to the city guards, emphasizing her point.
"What’s going on here?" Evelyn ran over, approaching Elysia worriedly. She felt a bit surprised because Elysia had silver hair, red eyes, and devil horns, but she could guess it was a disguise because of Sylvia’s previous request.
Ella and Ariel also came over to the scene. The three high-rank bigshots arrived, and everyone’s gaze fell on them.
Evelyn was adorned in dark purple knight armor forged with the manifestation of lightning. Her armor crackled with raw power, shimmering with the faintest hint of blue as if lightning danced along its surface.
Draped around her shoulders was a flowing mantle of midnight blue, trimmed with threads of silver that glint in the light like distant stars. As she moved, the fabric billowed and swirled around her.
Ella’s eyes sparkled with compassion and her lips curved into a serene smile. Her features were soft and serene, reflecting her purity and grace.
She wore her usual white-gold robes, the holy priestess outfit. Upon a gentle breeze, her robes billowed around her like clouds with pristine surfaces unmarred by even the slightest hint of impurity.
Adorning her robes were intricate symbols of divine significance. The holy sigils and sacred emblems. Each symbol was imbued with the blessings of God, serving as a reminder of her sacred duty to uphold the forces of good and righteousness.
Ariel was right beside Ella, clad in sparkling gold armor typical of a brilliant holy knight.
The arrival of Evelyn who seemed to represent a high-level knight from the Knight Association with Ella and Ariel as representatives of the Holy Church made the situation more peaceful. The city guards, store staff, and everyone thought the dispute between the human party and the devil duo would be over under the supervision of the higher-ups.
One of the city guards explained the situation to Evelyn as he thought she was a superior knight.
"Duel, is it? Since both parties have agreed, then leave it as it is. This dispute will end in the arena fair and square." Evelyn tried to hold back her laughter and patted the nearby city guard’s shoulder. She then looked at the fainted Serena and rolled her eyes.
"Yes, ma’am!" The city guard saluted.
Ella advised everyone to disperse and asked the challengers to wait in the guild’s arena at the appointed time.
Mason and his party left because the superiors had prevented the problem from growing any bigger. They took the fainted Serena away with relief as they also wanted to end the matter as peacefully as possible.
"I don’t know if they’re stupid or what. But, is this fate? She encountered Ely on her enrollment day, and she also bumped Ely right after our return." Evelyn shook her head with an amused smile.
"I’m surprised that advanced-level warrior dares to challenge a Blood Devil Empress." Ella heaved a subtle sigh, feeling that those people would suffer after offending Sylvia.
"Helnaw, I should be at Devil Goddess level here. But, Blood Devil Empress is pretty nice for temporary use." Sylvia nodded in agreement with her temporary title.
"You know them? Your relationship with them doesn’t look good." He-Dao stood next to Elsyia, looking at the fleeing party with several thoughts in mind.
"Don’t forget that girl once bullied Master Ely when our master newly reincarnated to this world." Xentia reminded everyone in case her sisters couldn’t remember Serena.
"Oh, that girl... Then, I have to put the account for her, not her friend." Sylvia dropped her fist onto her open palm.
"Hmm..." He-Dao crossed his arms. A mortal human was bold enough to bully the newly reincarnated Supreme Goddess. He secretly put a stroke of bad luck upon that girl’s head, but Elysia suddenly interrupted his spell halfway through.
"Leave her alone. I have forgiven her, and she has learned her lesson." Elysia heaved a subtle sigh and walked away.
"You are so benevolent and forgiving, my lady." He-Dao thought better of it.
If it was any other powerhouse in Quadtria, a girl like that Serena wouldn’t live long after offending a high-rank person. Luckily, Supreme Goddess Elysia was magnanimous.
