Chapter 507: A Lost Cause
Chapter 507: A Lost Cause
"Are you aware of your current situation? Spill everything out. Leave no detail behind." Lifa pursed her lips in great dissatisfaction.
Seeing Oceanid continuing to mumble incoherently like a traumatized child, Elysia released a soothing light with a sedative effect. Once Oceanid calmed down, she raised her hand to Lifa and asked in a gentle tone. "Can you tell us the situation on your side?"
"?!" Oceanid’s blue eyes stared at Elysia’s purplish-blue mesmerizing gaze. He was terrified of women because of that incident, but somehow he felt peaceful all of a sudden.
It was like a hypnosis that even influenced his soul, he began to tell everything, and it started from his first encounter with a top-tier seductress mermaid in a particular underwater city on the Aquatic Continent.
Like what he usually did every time he encountered the beauties, he would try to flirt with them. Unfortunately, that seductress hid a great evil, and that became the beginning of his fall. He touched the nightmare that ruined his life.
In the first few days, he had yet noticed an oddity in his body. Still, on the eighth day, his divine water body began to be contaminated by an unknown evil force from within.
He didn’t see it coming as the curse was delayed several days. Therefore, he hid in isolation to detoxify the toxin and curse, but it ended tragically. Everything was nothing but an evil scheme, but he didn’t know anything about the enemy.
Several days passed, and he could no longer use his power because his roots and meridians were sealed. On the thirteenth day, the evil seductress somehow appeared before him. He got captured and a hell of torture soon followed after he fell into her hand.
He got squeezed dry every hour, every day. Everything was snatched, ultimately his divine power. Until the greedy seductress wished to devour his entire divine soul as well.
Oceanid’s divine soul possessed a security mechanism even though the body and spirit could do nothing under the corruption and high-level bewitchment. Once the soul got damaged to a certain extent, the desperate measure was carried out to freeze the body, spirit, and soul in a purple sealing crystal, saving Oceanid from the evil seductress’ clutches. Before he got sealed entirely, he regained control over his body. He summoned a potent casket artifact and sealed himself inside to ensure his survival chance.
"..." Oceanid covered his face with both hands, feeling embarrassed and miserable.
Even though the lost and evil cause had been dealt with, he lost almost everything because the evil seductress had already snatched at least 98% of his divine power. He was reduced to a skinny, fragile old fish.
"You were once cursed the Heaven and the world because of your misfortune. By the time you reached godhood by luck and effort, you used your ascended water divine body to re-form your appearance to the one that satisfies your desire. You indulged yourself in worldly pleasures, but the tribulation arrived unexpectedly. We’ve warned you several times." Lifa put her hand to her forehead. She knew Oceanid would suffer because of women someday, but this ancient lecher never listened to anyone’s advice.
"Hey, the world is contaminated because of your indulgence. The evil seductress is defeated and shall receive her divine punishment, but you won’t get away with it either." Nell crossed her arms, feeling reluctant to pity the pathetic little lecher who tried to play it as a pure victim.
Regardless of anything, someone must be responsible for the restoration of the seas, rivers, lakes, and any other water sources polluted by Delora.
Elena opened a vote in the Elysium Group Chat, and almost everyone agreed to help Oceanid, but he had to restore the peace and purify the waters.
"It’s not my fault. It’s not my fault!" Oceanid crossed his arms over his head. He curled up like a ball, trying to make himself smaller.
"Hmm... We intend to help you regain some of your divine power, but you need to restore the damage and purify the water throughout the world. What do have to say?" Elysia made an offer after careful consideration with her sisters.
Unfortunately, Oceanid was not in the right state of mind to answer such a question. He kept muttering various incoherent mumbles. When Elysia was going to do something to bring Oceanid to his right mind with her magic, an irritated immunity seal suddenly jumped out into the casket and slapped the terrified man right on the cheek.
"Yo, come to your senses, bastard! You are playing in dirty water for so long. You survived by luck. Instead of cultivating immortality, you end up dabbling in immorality. You should have known because you were warned more than once! Whatever your reason. But, what is this? The so-called Sea God is reduced to nothing but a pathetic fish." Timus snapped in annoyance.
He then sighed and turned around. "Never mind. Just punish him and send him out on the next journey. It might be better if he reincarnates into a good fish in the future. Please help me regain my divine power and grant me your blessings. I will be responsible for purifying the contaminated water caused by the Polluted Sea God all over the world."
"..." Elysia and her Goddess sisters looked at each other. They were speechless because Timus spoke as if he would be a volunteer, a selfless hero, who wished to restore the peace and protect the beautiful world.
Sadly, he couldn’t hide his grin and expectant gaze as he wished to receive the divine favors and the blessing bestowed by many high-level divinities. If Oceanid wouldn’t do it, then he might as well grab the opportunity to speed up his ascension!
This became a very tempting trade all of a sudden. Purifying the waters would be so easy if he put in his efforts.
"I’ll do it." Oceanid propelled his body to sit down. He trembled as the nightmare was still deeply ingrained into his body and mind, but he couldn’t lose the trust and the opportunity that his saviors gave him.
He might be a lecher, the bastard with a lost cause. But, it was his nature. He also never forced anyone to fall for him. Still, this tragedy truly hit him very hard.
"What do you say, punk?" Timus had the urge to slap Oceanid into unconsciousness so he could receive the responsibility and Elysium Goddesses’ favors. It was a super deal with an irresistible offer!
"I said, I’ll do it! I’ll restore the damage caused by that evil witch, but please help me to regain my divine power. Ugh! But, please allow me to grant the divine punishment to that witch with my own hands." Oceanid crawled out of the casket.
He fell to the floor and rolled over, but he immediately got up to knelt before Lifa, begging her to grant his wish.
"We still need to investigate how she can obtain the power of corruption. We can’t grant your wish." Lifa shook her head.
Oceanid could only do it in his prime, but he fell and suffered. Unless they helped him to regain everything he had lost... however, they would only restore a fragment of his divine power and divine water body.
"I see..." Oceanid looked at the ground as he knew what he was asking for was too much.
Elena gave a signal to Lifa to return the fragment of purified divinity that they extracted from Delora’s soul essence to its rightful owner.
Lifa nodded and extended her hand, releasing the condensed fragment of sea divinity at Oceanid.
"!!!" Oceanid felt a sudden surge of power flow into his body. A portion of his divine soul, spirit, roots, and meridians got repaired. He gradually melted into a blue liquid, but he soon reformed his body.
At that moment, he was super shocked because he couldn’t manifest his divine form. He could only transform into a small water spirit! His current form resembled a genderless sea angel the size of a pillow.
"You regained your divine water body, but we revoked your human form from your repaired soul. With your current form that has no gender, you can no longer commit the same mistakes." Lifa stated the decision to Oceanid with a firm intonation.
"..." Oceanid was still surprised at his improved condition from the dying ugly merfolk to a healthy genderless sea angel.
"The God of Trade. Does your previous statement to volunteer still apply? We also need your help." Elysia added the offer to the enthusiastic seal.
"At your service, ma’am! Water purification shall become my specialty, but I have no power for it yet." Timus leaped and sat in front of Elysia like an obedient good sea dog by instinct. He looked at Elysia as if he was born for it, ready to carry out any task.
"Hmm-mm~" Elysia faintly smiled and formed a contract.
She would grant Timus the ’desired’ power, and Timus had to purify the contaminated places throughout the world, restoring peace and beautiful nature.
The contract was approved by both parties, and Timus stated his oath to carry out his duty. "Here I vow in the name of Heaven and my divine soul. I will purify the contaminated places throughout the world."
"We have received your oath. I hope, by the time we visit this world again in the future, the waters will be clear and clean." Elysia extended her hand forward.
Timus looked up with a sparkling gaze as he already waited for it. Unfortunately, he felt nothing as grand as what happened to Oceanid. He regained none, not even his divine body.
"You broke your promise? Did you scam me?" Timus raised his voice in protest.
"Didn’t you notice it? I grant you the promised power to purify the water by upgrading your immunity talent. Everything around you will be purified at the cost of your spiritual energy." Elysia blinked her eyes innocently. She only used a little effort to gain a worker who would diligently become a water purifier.
"What?" Timus didn’t expect it. The deal was just that, but nothing was wrong with the clauses. However, he didn’t receive the same favor as the Sea God, and that was really unfair!
"Pfft, it was a fair trade from the start, and it was just you expecting more. Don’t try to take advantage of the Goddesses with your little tricks, pal." Sorush put his arm around his friend’s shoulder.
"So, you will do it, right? We’ll entrust you with this task. Not just water, even the land got contaminated." Lifa crouched down, looking at Timus and Oceanid intimidatingly.
Oceanid reflexively backed away and nodded several times.
"Y-yes, ma’am!" Timus closed his eyes and saluted. He felt like crying, but he didn’t dare to voice out any protest. It was his carelessness, to begin with.
